Updating PowerStore 4.0 to the Latest Version

This tutorial shows you the process of upgrading your existing PowerStore 4 website to PowerStore 4.5.1.

NOTE: If you have made any custom changes to any of the pages (not including creating new themes using the Design Editor), you may need to recreate or copy over those changes, after performing this update.

  1. A PowerStore 4 site already installed
  2. The latest PowerStore 4.5.y update zip file downloaded from your Download Center

arrow downUpdate Instructions

  1. Create a copy of your existing PowerStore in case something goes wrong during the upgrade process
  2. Extract the contents of the PowerStore451.zip file.
  3. Open a connection to your live PowerStore files via FTP.
    Or your preferred method for accessing the files you are using for PowerStore.
  4. Optional Step: If you have created a custom PowerStore theme, download a backup copy of the webassist/themes folder.
  5. In the root of the PowerStore451 folder, highlight all the files and directories listed and drag them to your live PowerStore files to update those files.
  6. Open the install directory from the PowerStore folder.
  7. Upload the webassist folder to the root of your live PowerStore files.
  8. If you have a backup of your webassist/themes folder, replace the current preset themes.


Once all these files and directories have been updated, you will need to perform the following manual update to your database.

  1. Locate this .sql script file in your PowerStore451 files.
    If using PowerStore 4.1 - install/scripts/v4.0.1_4.5.1_update.sql
    If using PowerStore 4.0 - install/scripts/v4_4.5.1_update.sql

  2. Open the .sql file in a text editor (Notepad/TextEdit) or in Dreamweaver Code View.
  3. Follow the steps below to run this script.
    These instructions are specific to phpMyAdmin which is the most commonly used tool for managing your live database. The steps will be similar for other tools.
  4. Log into phpMyAdmin from within your Hosting Provider's Control Panel.
    If you are using 1&1, choose MySQL Administration option and click the phpMyAdmin button next to your database.

  5. Click the SQL icon to open the SQL dialog box.
  6. Return to the application where you have opened the .sql file and highlight all the content and press Ctrl (Cmd) C to copy.
  7. Return to the phpMyAdmin SQL dialog box, place your cursor and press Ctrl (Cmd) V to paste.
  8. Click Go to run the script.


When finished, your PowerStore site will be updated to PowerStore 4.5.1.
