Authentication problem Windows asp

Hi

I am helping a friend who has a Windows asp website. It has been moved from a previous host and uses Universal Email for sending emails from contact forms. There are a few contact forms on the site and all of them are not working. When completing a contact form and clicking submit, it then come up with the following error:

Persits.MailSender.4 error '800a0006'

535 Authentication failed

/WA_Universal_Email/AspEmail_VB.asp, line 151

As I say this is a asp website not php. I have scanned this forum but have not found any answers. Please can anyone help with what is causing this error and how to fix it.

Thanks in advance.

The ASPEmail server has been configured to require a Username and Password to relay email messages.

Either you have not entered a Username and Password for the ASPEmail SMTP server, or you have entered the wrong values.

Contact the host, they will be able to tell you the correct Username and Password to use. you will need to edit the Universal Email instance, and enter the username and password values on the first page of the wizard.

Thank you Jason for your feedback on this. I appreciate your help.

The host is a regular Windows Server host and they don't know anything particularly about Universal Email. When you say about the "Universal Email instance", where is this? I have FTP access so I think I should be able to find it. Or is this something that is in memory when the Windows asp application runs?

But what of the wizard? Is this a .asp file that can be initiated through a browser?

Sorry to be so vague, but as I said this is a friends website who doesn't know anything about the workings of this. Thanks in advance for any more help you can give.

When you are editing the page ion Dreamweaver, go to the server behaviors panel, Window -> Server Behaviors, and double click the Universal Email server behavior to edit it. The first step of the Universal Email Wizard allows you to set the Email Object, on this step, you also set the Username and Password for connecting to the SMTP server.

Thank you Jason again.

Sorry, if I am still misunderstanding some things here.

I can see the Server Behaviors panel in Dreamweaver, but I am unclear what you mean when you say about the page I am editing. Do you mean the AspEmail_VB.asp or another page?

When I have the AspEmail_VB.asp page open in Dreamweaver and then open the Server Behaviors panel it has plus and minus buttons with text alongside that says: Document type: ASP VBScript and then underneath a series of four instructions following "To use dynamic data on this page.

I cannot see any reference to a Universal Email server behavior. I presume therefore that I am not editing the right page. Where can I find the page I should be editing or do I need to do something else?

you need to open the page that you applied Universal Email to.

I had not applied Universal Email to anything as it wasn't my site and was created by my friend's previous host. But no matter, thank you Jason for your help and I have managed to fix it now :)

Thank you for your patience with me! :)
