CSS Menu Writer 2.01 Installation Problems

I tried to upgrade to 2.01 by first removing my former version of CSSMenuwriter - the system kept telling me that files were in use and to close Dreamweaver. I closed DWCS3 and rebooted my machine - still the same problem. So I tried disabling and removing through Extension Manager with DWCS3 closed - more error messages. Then I tried to install the newer version without removing the old version - more error messages. Now the problem is compounded because I tried to remove/upgrade the Google Pro Maps but got more error messages such as:

"The following translators were not loaded due to errors:
The following Javascript errors occurred:
Unable to open script file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS3\Configuration\Shared\WebAssist\GoogleMapsPro\Library\WA_Configuation.js" (error 3)

and

"While executing onLoad in CSSMenuWriter.htm, the following Javascript error(s) occurred:
In file ""CSSMenuwriter"": Reference Eror: on Startup is not defined

Obviously something has been corrupted but I can't install or remove either of these new extensions and am continually getting error messages while working with DWCS3 when I'm not even trying to utilize a WebAssist Extension.

When I try to remove or disable either of these 2 extensions, Extension Manager just hangs.

Oh yeah, using Vista 64 Pro (I know...I know...)

Any suggestions on how I can remove the old versions of these 2 extensions and install the new ones?

Reinstall everything, then follow the advice on this forum about removing the winfilecache that will likely solve the problems you were experiencing.

When you say "reinstall everything" I hope you mean just CSSMenuwriter and Google ProMaps?

If so, I can't reinstall - I just error messages.

Also, do you have the link to the "winfilecache" you referred to?

I mean get everything installed that you want installed.

Then read: showthread.php?t=621&highlight=winfilecache.dat

I deleted the winfile cache file.

I cannot reinstall - or uninstall - or disable - extensionmanager just hangs and I get error messages on opening DW3 about cannot open the webassist WA_configuration.js for both CSSMenuwrite and the same message about ProMaps

I also tried renaming the .mxi files for these extensions but that didn't help.

PS - making progress and I don't know how - I was finally able to REMOVE the older version of Menuwriter- now I'm working on ProMaps

Be patient. If you have a lot of extensions installed extension manager can appear to hang while uninstalling. Try again and just wait, chances are it will uninstall.

Installation Update Resolved

I finally got this problem resolved - I'm not sure what did it, but I deleted the wincache_dat file, rebooted my machine, did not open DW3 at all, then opened Extension Manager and removed the 2 extensions there. I was then able to install the upgraded versions of CSSMenuwriter and GoogleProMaps.

It wasn't without pain - but I'm finally back in business.

Thanks for your support, Ray!

CSS Menuwriter 2.01 Installation Problem Resolved

I also had a problem with CSS MenuWriter 2.01 and resolved it per below.

(1) DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM:

After setting up a new CSS Menu Writer menu using the "Insert CSS Menu" window, I press "OK" , the "WebAssist Site Tools" menu pops up, stating that "MenuWriter: Initializing", "Progress Run Time: 0:01" (see attached screen capture), then nothing, even after waiting 5 minutes or more. Tried various settings in MW, but always the same result. Never had this problem with MW v 1.

(2) RESPONSE FROM WEBASSIST SUPPORT TEAM:

This issue appears on pre-release versions of Dreamweaver CS3. The extension should work on the released version (Build 3481). This is a known issue in Dreamweaver Build 3453.

Please make sure your Dreamweaver build is 3481 or greater. This has been verified and will work on working versions of CS3. To find out the build you are using go to Help->About from the menu in Dreamweaver and click once to forward to the version number and build.

(3) MY RESPONSE TO WEBASSIST:

I verified that my version of Dreamweaver CS3 is Build 3481 and that was is the version that was installed when I had the problem.

(4) HOW I RESOLVED THE PROBLEM (while awaiting a response):

(a) Closed Dreamweaver.

(b) Uninstalled CSS MenuWriter 2.01 from Adobe Extension Manager CS3.

(c) Deleted WinFileCache-____.dat file from C:\Documents and Settings\Allan\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver 9\Configuration.

(d) Rebooted computer.

(e) Opened and Closed Dreamweaver CS3 (don't know why, just thought I would do so in case Dreamweaver needed to create a new winFileCache___dat file before trying to reinstall CSS MW).

(f) Reinstalled CSS MenuWriter 2.01 from Adobe Extension Manager CS3.

(g) Opened Dreamweaver, opened new instance of CSS MW and reentered authorization code.

(h) Created new CSS MW menu and CSS MW 2.01 functioned correctly.

Hope this helps anyone with similar problem.
