How do you remove the sales tax variable?

I have a problem that needs solving. I need a way to remove the sales tax calculation from the shopping cart when my customers move back and forth between the checkout confirm.php page and the rest of my e-commerce website. Currently, if a customer wants to go back and put more items into the shopping cart they will see the old sales tax calculation from before. Is there an easy way to remove the sales tax price without destroying the entire shopping cart contents?

Simple answer is to go into code view in your view cart page and remove the code (table rows) that displays the shipping, charges and grand total so that only the purchased items and the sub total remain.
