Getting an error message when checking for an existing name - RESOLVED

I created a form using FB. I used Data Assist->Insert Record to insert the form's record. Then I realized it wasn't checking for an existing user so I clicked on Add Behavior and chose User Authentication - Check User Name but I immediately get an error saying there isn't an Insert Record behavior. Problem is, there is an Insert Record behavior since I created it with DA->Insert Record.

Any idea why I'm getting this error?

That server behavior can only be applied if you are using the Dreamweaver insert record server behavior.

The work around is to start of using the Dreamweaver Insert record server behavior, Then insert the Check New user name server behavior, and get that working. Then remove the Dreamweaver insert Record server behavior and replace it with the DataAssist insert record server behavior. You will need to add the following hidden form element:

html:
<input type="hidden" name="MM_insert" value="WAATKRegistrationForm">

for the check New user name to continue working.

once the Dreamweaver Insert record behavior is removed, there will be a red exclamation mark next to the Check New user name behavior, and you will not be able to edit it. As long as the hidden form element is in place, it should still work though.

Thanks for that info Jason. Out of curiosity is this workaround mentioned somewhere in the documentation and I just missed it?

One other thing regarding DA and the WA Insert Record behavior, is it supposed to do something similar to DW in the sense that it recognizes the field names in the database table and attempts to match them to the form's input fields being posted?

I was having trouble getting the info to insert correctly in the database and was surprised to see that I had to edit each input of data that was being posted with the proper column name in the database table. I say surprised, because I had created the form in DW previous to buying DA and FB, and I had added DW's Insert Record server behavior that automatically matched the various form inputs with the correct database table column name. Basically I didn't have to change a thing for the DW Insert Record behavior.

Is this not the case for DA's Insert Record behavior?

Regarding creating the hidden field with the values you suggest to get around any errors with DW, which part of the Form Builder extension would you use to add this hidden field and to supply those values as you listed?

I can see where I can add a hidden field using Edit Form or Edit Contents, but the edit option is always grayed out so no idea where I would set values for it.

My suspicion is that you might tell me I need to add the hidden field using Edit Form but create values somewhere else. I just hope this isn't a case of having to add it by hand to the form since I'm already having to retype other hand-coded stuff every time I decide to make a tweak on the form and then have FB blow it away.

thanks for the info,

steve

In regards to DataAssist matching to the form elements, see my reply to the other thread you started for this:

The hidden form elements will need to be added manually after creating the form with form builder.
