Add bogo checkout promo code

Can I get the shopping cart to add a 2nd item free of charge. It is a BOGO.

Yes. There are many ways to do this and the devil is in the details. How many items you sell, whether you want to turn it on or off from a database, whether you want it displayed as a discount or just not displayed as a charge all factor in to how it would be achieved.

Thanks Ray for getting back with me. It is just 1 item and I need it to be add to the cart after they put in a promo code. It does not need to be turned off. It also has to show in the cart as added but not charged.

I think you could use a custom column to determine the BOGO discount and then set up a discount rule to take that amount off the total. Something like:

BOGODiscount = ([ID]=123)?floor([Quantity]/2)*[Price]:0

That should give a column value equal to the price of the item for every other item purchased for product ID 123.

Then just set up a discount for a total of that column value.
