Data connections

I am a prospective customer.

I've watched a few videos and read a couple tutorials, yet the answers to the questions below are still unclear:

1.difference between data bridge and mysqli extension (besides db's added features not directly related to db access),
2. can I use cs 5 (video used 6)?,
3.can I buy mysqli product and buy super suite later if mysqli works (since I want the ecart too)?
4. I know you don't support PDO yet, but I assume your data bridge will use the mysqli syntax. Do we have a choice between procedural and object-oriented? (I'm just starting to use the object approach).
5. Is PDO on your todo list? The forum answers are inconclusive.

Thank you

1) The MySQLi server behaviors are a recreation of the standard built in server behaviors that are shipped with DW modified to use the MySQLi library.

Data Bridge is a collection of more advanced tools. At this time, Data bridge does not support the MySQLi library, but we are working on an upgrade for that. The tools in Data Bridge include Data Assist, which is a wizard to create advanced Insert, update, details, search and results page sets for your tables. It can be used to add File Uploaded behaviors to those page, or Rich HTML Editor fields.

It also contains the Security Assist wizard which can be used to create user regression / login pages for your site.

a full listing of the tools in Data Bridge can be found here:

2) Yes, Data Bridge is supported on Dreamweaver CS4 and above.

3) Yes, you can buy super Suite later, but it would be cheaper to buy Super Suite at the start.

4) The MySQLi extension uses the Object Oriented Syntax, when Data Bridge is upgraded to use the MySQLi library, it will also use the object oriented syntax.

5) We don't plan to implement PDO.

Mr Byrnes

Thanks for the information. I should have asked if your shopping cart solutions use mysqli. Using PHP 5, it's too much of a pain to change every Dreamweaver query, and I have no desire to change every query in a shopping cart solution either.

I guess I'll have to wait for your upgrade. Either that, or downgrade my PHP.

I appreciate your time and trouble.

Theres no need to downgrade the php version. php 5 still supports using the MySQL library. you will just need to set the error reporting level in the php.ini file to suppress Deprecated warnings.
