Form Builder CSS and Data Assist 2

Form Builder CSS and Data Assist 2

Hi I have created a series of pages using DataAssist and templates/css.
I want to add elements such as validation, anti-spam and calendar popups in the data assist forms I now have but I do not want to change the format at all.

How can I do this?

Many thanks,
Neil

Using CSS Form Builder you will have a couple of choices for making the edits you would like. For the validations you can always run the validation wizards for both client and server side.

To edit the form and add in these other parts though you would need to first highlight the form then go to Insert > WebAssist > CSS Form Builder > Insert form.

The group that you would like to add to the form is the security group, the date picker can be added as a single form element.

When you use the CSS Form Builder it will recreate your form based on the settings you have chosen. You have flexibility over the design and the other aspects but the form will be created based on these. One thing you will have to do after you modify the form is to make sure to re-associate any default values for the form elements through the bindings panel.

Can anyone elaborate on this further?

If I highlight the form, then click Insert CSS Form.

Go through the Wizzard and then upload, I only see a blank page.

I then go through the insert behaviour wizzard and make sure all the values are linked as before - still just get a blank page

Then go through and delete and values for the various fields (as its an insert page there wont be any preset values) and I still get a blank page.

I'm obviously doing something wrong, but have no idea what it is!

Can't wait till DA uses the CSS Form Builder to build its forms the first time!!

This might help

I believe the article that addresses this is located Here -> modifying_custom_form.pdf

It would definately be nice if WA would incorporate the form designer with DA. I messed around with this over the weekend and I've come to the conclusion that it is almost easier to use DA for creating only the results page and then creating the input and update forms with FB. Your mileage may vary :) I will be happy when WA comes out with some more tutorials/videos on using the FB. It is a great tool but IMHO has a very steep learning curve.

Good Luck!

I found that this document (that I had already read) was good for general forms with a small mention regarding DA at the end.

I felt that it needed a little more which explained Upload and Insert forms created by DA - a bit like the documents with DFP.

I agree with the idea of having some more documentation that is specific to making edits to the forms our other tools are creating. I have spoken with a couple of people on this and it is something that we have in the works.

If you have any other recommendations or ideas please feel free to submit them in our feedback form that is available from the feedback link at the top of the pages above the navigation, here is a link:

submit-idea.php

This goes rite to the dept heads and will help us to understand more of our users needs.

Hi Eric

Thanks for the update, its very much appreciated!

I don't normally write negative stuff on here as I love the products and think that the support is great! But I did use the Submit an Idea button requesting better documentation focused on integrating CSS Forms and DA and also about DA using CSS Form technology in the future, The responses that I received were less than helpful to be honest. (Which was a great shame as the support here has been fantastic!)

Data Assist being updated in the future to use CSS Form abilities;

Thank you for your inquiry. The only way to achieve the form structure of CSS Form Builder, is to use that Extension. DataAssist does not have the same functionality of CSS Form Builder. Please click on the following link and choose the "Features" tab. Here you will find a complete feature list for DataAssist:

Thanks for pointing this out, I have forwarded this along to be reviewed by a couple of people so that we can improve the process in the future. As always any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Add Later?

Is it not possible to add individual elements (e.g calendar pop-up) to a data assist form without having to restyle it? Form Builder has these functions, but you don't seem to be able to access them without reformatting the whole lot.

If you are adding this control into an existing DataAssist form then you will be applying all new stying to the form as well. Even if your goal is to just add to form or replace a certain element you are actually recreating the entire form with CSS Form Builder.
