Jamie

I am trying to create data assist pages and getting DB errors after creation. Can you plz help?

Just installed all the latest updates.

1st Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'desc, shortdesc FROM memorials WHERE id = 24' at line 1

The above error I get when Inserting. The record inserts and the file uploads, and I see the "id" is = to the record id that was created. What do I need to do to fix this?

2nd Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'desc, shortdesc FROM memorials WHERE id = 23' at line 1

I get this error when testing the update page. I can't get this page to work at all.

The error is caused by using a Reserved Word for the name of a column in your table.

desc is a Reserved Word and should not be used when naming a table or column in your database. For a full list of Reserved Words, see the following page:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/reserved-words.html

I sugest using a naming convention that will prevent the possibility of using a reserved word, the convention I like to use is to preface the table name in the column name, for example:

the table name is "memorials", so i would name the columns as:
memorialCatType
memorialImage
memorialDesc
memorialShortDesc

This naming convention prevents the use of reserved words, and also prevents the possibility of using the same name in different tables which can cause other issues.
