Database Driven Websites.

I am looking for a extension to help with building a marketing website for the South African Motorcycle Industry.
Basically a A-Z Guide with Categories and Listings, i have around 600 companies in a database that i need to manage.

Can you advise me whether you have the right tools for the job.

Data Bridge sounds like the product you would need. It should have everything you would want to use to create the directory, searches and listings for your database.

Data Bridge

Currently the Database that we have got is in excel format. We need to create a SQL database with a infrastructure that will accept
the data from this excel spreadsheet. Are there extensions in Data Bridge which will allow us to create the database infrastructure
and transfer the excel data into it. If not can you advise on the simplest method and tools to achieve our goals ( we are not php coders )

Kind Regards
Simon.

There is not a tool in Data bridge to convert an Excel Spreadsheet to a table in a MySQL database.

Through a google search for:
convert excel spreadsheet to mysql table

I found the following tool on the MySQL site that looks like it will help you:
http://www.mysql.com/why-mysql/windows/excel/

THere are also a number of other results that where returned that looked helpful.

If you have Microsoft Access, you can do it another way too, (in 2 stages)

You need to link your access database to your mysql database tables via an odbc connection, for which you will need a MySQL ODBC driver

Once this is done, you can simply copy and paste your excel data into your mysql database tables via the access interface.

Database

Thanks for your information about Microsoft Access but we are working on Mac.
Do you know if the procedure you have mentioned would work with File Maker ?

Sorry. I'm a PC user, so can't give a definitive answer, but if you can get a mySQL ODBC driver for a mac then I can't see why it wouldn;t work

Try this link, see if it helps

I have bought Data Bridge as advised by Ray Borduin.

I having been working for the past few weeks on learning MySQL and making connections via dreamweaver.
Also i have done tutorial "getting started with dynamic websites".
I now have more understanding of dynamic websites.

I now wanting advise on where to go from here in terms of tutorials.

The type of website i am trying to create is similar to this: http://www.thejozikids.co.za
In my database i have categorized by type of business and region.
I am wanting to learn how to create queries and how to show results on a page.
and any other interesting features that databridge offers.

Simon.

I would recommend the Data Bridge Getting started guide next:

The Data Bridge getting started guide contains links to Additional Getting started guides for the tools that are included in Data Bridge to help you become more familiar with the package.
