PayPal (not Pro) integration with Power Store?

PayPal (not Pro) integration with Power Store?

Have been hovering over the 'buy' button for Powerstore for some time now, and just as I was arriving at a decision to commit, I saw a post in this - or another - thread saying that Power Store only works with a PayPal Pro account, not an ordinary PayPal account.

Please could someone provide a definitive reply, i.e. - is this the case?

Thanks,

Neil H

Power Store does not have support for the PayPal Payments Standard payment gateway.

Power Store supports the use of PayPal Payments Pro and Authorize.net AIM Payment gateways.

If you own eCart, you _could_ change the Payment Gateway.

NOTE: If you use eCart and change the gateway to a Remote checkout method (Such as PayPal Payments Standard), you will loose some of the power store functionality such as Email Receipts, Inventory Control and Order History.

Thanks Jason,

That leaves me wondering what PowerStore actually has left to offer a web developer. One would assume that inventory control and email receipts would be an integral part of your product - given the cost - independent of the choice of payment gateway. I am finding it hard to identify any proprietary function other that providing a limited template and a UI that merely shortcuts to existing DreamWeaver or PHP functions.

Similarly, I just bought WebAssist's iRite, which "utilises FCKEditor", and it turns out that it virtually <i>is</i> FCKEditor - which I could have (and subsequently did) download for free. Are the (open source) FCKEditor team aware that you are charging for what is essentially their product?

I am further confused as to why the functions missing in PowerStore but available in eCart have not been integrated into a single product that meets the needs of a lot of the people posting here. I see on several threads the proviso: "If you have eCart . . . ".

It is not clear on your PS promotional material that Powerstore is limited and that you really should have eCart as well.

I don't feel that this product was ready to market in all conscience.

PowerStore = $349.99 PLUS eCart = $199.99 = $549.98. Could your programmers not integrate the functionality of both into a more attractive package at a price of around $399? (and work on the inventory control and email receipts through ANY gateway)?

Power store is intended to be a Ready Made application that was created using WebAssist Extensions. It is intended to be used out of the box with the advertised payment gateways. The feature list advertise Authorize.net payment gateway and PayPal Payments Pro gateway. The included features are listed on the Feature list.

If you need features that are not built into PowerStore, than you can use the WebAssist Extensions to modify Power Store to add that functionality. As with anything however, there are going to be limits to this.

The issue with inventory control and Paypal Payments standard is in the way Paypal payments standard works. When using PayPal Payments standard, once the user goes through and they reach the checkout success page, you really don't know yet if transaction has gone through. It only means paypal has excepted the payment details and have placed the transaction into a queue. Once PayPal does make the transaction, they issue an IPN post containing the success or failure messages and other transaction details.

PayPal Payments standard requires a completely different workflow then PayPal Payments Pro.

The Power Store is a fairly new product that was created for users who do not want to bother with eCart, they just want a store up and running. Version 1 only supported Paypal Payments pro and USPS. In Version 2 we added more shipping providers and Authorize.net. When we release version 3, we may add Paypal Payments Standard, however at this time, it is not supported.

As for you comments about iRite, what we are selling is the integration of FCKEditor into Dreamweaver. Rather than manually downloading the FCKEditor and configuring it on your page, the iRite Extension adds the FCKEditor to your page for you. We are not selling the FCKEditor, we are selling the graphical interface that is used to configure the FCKEditor.

Thanks Jason,

But now I'm really confused. You say:

"The feature list advertise Authorize.net payment gateway and PayPal Payments Pro gateway. The included features are listed on the Feature list."

And:

"When we release version 3, we may add Paypal Payments pro, however at this time, it is not supported."

Am trying to get my head round what's really provided, but am finding it a bit imponderable. I take your point about iRite but surely if you are building a true interface for dreamweaver, it should negate the need for having to tinker with the code outside of such an interface? (As per w_A_Mail's post on another thread).

Will wait to see what v.3 comprises, I think.

Sorry that was typo.

It should have read:
When we release version 3, we may add Paypal Payments Standard, however at this time, it is not supported.

Cheers Jason,

That would be excellent. I'll look forward to that!

I think there's a LOT of people in this forum that would be happy to buy an upgrade when PayPal Standard is added.

PayPal Pro is a service that many merchants are reluctant to pay for, especially since the monthly fee is more expensive than getting a merchant account.

Paypal Standard

Please let me know when you release a version that supports PayPal standard - I still have many clients that 'like it that way'... Thanks
