Shipping Options Question

Shipping Options Question

Is there way to create a shipping table? I need the shipping cost to be based on the total cost of the order, not on weight. Is there a way to do this?

The only way to accomplish this would be to set the weight of the items in your catalog to the same as the price. By using the price value for the weight, the weight based rules would apply as if they where price based.

I'm also looking for this answer. Is there a tutorial somewhere in doing this?

There is no tutorial for this, but it is fairly strait forward.

If you set the price of an item to 19.99, use the same value for the weight.

By using the Price as the weight, you can fool the system to make the weight based shipping rules act as if they where price based.

Jason
If i understand this correctly, I could set my sales price as the weight then can i bill a certain percentage (15%) to be the shipping charge.

Example: I sell $1000 of product and then the shipping charge would be $150.00

Also Can I add shipping and handling to some items (that cost more than the 17%) and that would add to the 17% shipping fee.

no, the shipping does not calculate by percentages, it calculates by flat rate.

you can set a maximum weight for the rule to apply to, and a flat rate to apply to that weight range.

Power store does not support percentage based shipping rates.

Can I buy a upgraded shopping cart that would charge a percentage of the $ value for the sale? Then i could accomplish what i want to..
also would be able to have a shipping/handling charge for certain items I need to tweak shipping on.
I was looking at Ecart, I liked the option because the customer can get freight quotes.

You could use eCart to create a shopping cart that calculates the Shipping based on percentages, or even different percentages for different products or product groups

in eCart you could set a column for product category, for products that should changed the 15 percent rate, set that column to 1 and products that should be charged the 17 percent rate, set that column 2.

in the eCart object, create shipping rules using the Items with a specific column value option for the trigger and the calculation to determine which rule to apply.

we don't have a pre built shopping cart available that would do this though.
