How critical is the server php version

How critical is the server php version

I am thinking of purchasing your PowerStore 4.5.2 and under the system requirements it states that the server version of PHP needs to be 5.2.4+. My server (1and1.com) appears to only support up to 5.2.17 at present (they have a Beta version of 5.4). How critical is this difference in php versions? Will the PowerStore work at all, or will there just be some isolated issues and what might those issues be?

Thanks

the power store install script will error out with that version of PHP. that version of PHP does not support the mysql_set_charset() function that is used for the connection, it will not be able to work on that version of PHP.

What are your views on using the Beta 5.4 version?

I dont see any problem with it, but it is a beta version and comes with all the promises inherent in a beta version.

I just confirmed with my server that they only run 5.2.17 and don't know of any upgrade timelines. Is there an earlier version of PowerStore that only requires php 5.2.17 or less?

Thanks for your very quick responses.

No, there is not an earlier version that will work with an earlier PHP version.

Hi Jason,
I just realized (duh) that I was looking at the version numbers incorrectly. I was looking at the numbers as decimals and that .17 was less than .4, but in fact .17 is build seventeen which is a much later version than .4 or build 4. Please verify that I am correct and that PowerStore 4.5.2 will work with php 5.2.17 (seventeen).

Sorry for the mix-up.

LOL, guess I should have caught that too...

according to:
releases/

you are absolutely correct.

5.2.4 - Released: 30 August 2007
5.2.17 - Released: 06 January 2011

Power Store 4 should be fine running on PHP 5.2.17

No problem, the tech at my server didn't catch it either. Just glad to know that I am good to go. Thank you for your very efficient responses. Makes me feel confident about WebAssist's support. Have a great day.

Powerstore compatibility with PHP versions 5.3.2+

Hi Jason,

Do you see a problem running Powerstore upgrading the server with the upgraded specs listed below. I have some additional APIs that are requiring these upgrades and before I do a ton of tests on my own I thought I would ask the master

Thanks for your help

PHP 5.3.2+ compiled with the cURL extension
A recent version of cURL 7.16.2+ compiled with OpenSSL and zlib
Install Guzzle
