paths to folders

Odd prolem here! The correct path to my images is up/pages

When I upload a new image using html editor, the image uploads and is shown in the properties window as up/pages/image.jpg and inserts properly.

However, if I go to 'browse server', select the same image (the thumbnails display correctly) to insert it, then in the properties window the no image is shown, and the path displayed in the field is up/image.jpg

Can someone tell me what to change, and where?
Many thanks
