1 Add to Cart Button - Multiple Products

Hello Web Assist,

I ran into an Issue Where I need to have 1 Product, but Ship Multiple Packages...Jason answered this issue as not supported. I have another option that I want to know if its supported and How to accomplish it.

I want 1 Add to Cart Button to Add several Products to the Shopping Cart that way each package with-in this Item can get shipping rates appropriately (Each Package within the Item has different weight and dimensions). I know that I'll probably have to have each package as a separate product within my database. I also want the ability that if 1 of the packages, that belongs to the particular item, is removed from the cart that the rest of the packages are removed.

So overall, is this do able and what approach/How is this done.

Thanks
Joey

it is possible to have one add to cart button add multiple items to the cart. however, it is not supported to have them all removed from the cart if one is removed, This would require custom hand coding to loop through the cart and remove the related IDs.

How-To

Thanks Jason, Now how do I go about doing this. I read the Ecart 3 tutorial on adding multiple products with 1 Add to cart Button...but that is 2 versions ago...I really need some more up to date information on how I can accomplish this.

Thanks
Joey

the version 3 documentation is still valid with version 5, all of the steps are still the same.

The only change is that Database Search is not a part of DataAssist. So you need to use the DataAssist Search server behavior from data assist.

other then that the concept and steps are the same, the interfaces may loo slightly different, but they still do the same job.

If there is a specific step in the documentation you are unsure of, let us know.

The Checkbox Step

Hello Jason,

What I'm confused on is the whole checkbox needing to be part of the Add 2 Cart Section.
I want just the Button to Show nothing else...Also with my product page its, not created Dynamically. I have a Static Page with Add to Cart Buttons

See Here:
products.php

...So I don't have a repeating regions or anything like that...So I really need some direction.

to add multiple items at a time, you will need to use a dynamic cart.

There is not going to be a supported way to accomplish what you are trying to do, which is to add one item to the cart that is treated like multiple items by the UPS shipping rate calculator.

Whether you approach from the stand point of adding multiple items to the cart with one add to cart button or one item in the cart that gets treated as many, eCart is not designed to work that way and will require hand coding of the PHP.

I think you will be better off calculating the shipping in another way rather than using the rate lookup service.
