Secure and Expiring Download Links

Secure and Expiring Download Links

I want to be able to generate secure links that will expire with a # of downloads and/or time. Something needs to be able to track how many times a file is downloaded.

I know I could add logic to have an expire time calculated, but how do you track how many times they have been downloaded? And how do you generate secure download links?

Thanks.

Use the download file server behavior provided as part of the File Manipulation functions of CSS Form Builder.

You will need to make sure the downloadable files are stored in a location on the server that cannot be accessed through a web URL.

The download File behavior includes a download count option which will update a column in the database everytime the file is downloaded.

OK - but how do I go about expiring the links after so many downloads or expiration time. How does the cart know when a download is occurring and do a logic check before hand?

Is it possible to have multiple sub-products included as part of a product? Say I have product a, product a is actually product a, product b, product c.

you use a recordset to determine whether to show the download link or not based on the number downloads. by using a where clause in the recordset you can check todays date against an expiration date or the download count column against the number of allowed downloads.

yes, your products can include sub products, though the sub products will not display in the cart as separate line items.

OK Thanks - I'm sure I will have more questions when I start to do this.
