Email bogging down server

Hi,

I have a list of about 10,000 ppl whom we send updates to about once a week. I built a form to send out these emails and when I hit send. The server all but stops working. The site is dgoldphoto.com. We send out updates when we add pictures. Any ideas why this could be happening?

sending out that many emails at one time will take a fair bit of the servers resources.

You should send the updates outside of peak times to limit the the number of people that are also connected while the email is being sent.

The other thing to is to throttle the email so say, maybe 200 go at once then wait a minute or two before sending the next 200.

I would throttle and do like Jason said and send at off peak times. And while I am not sure of your server situation - if you use a hosting company, they may be actually suspending your site for resource overload and breaking the terms of your hosting contract.

Best regards,

Brian
