Integrating existing member file with URSP

I'm very new at working with php and databases. I am working on a new website for an organization that would like for current dues-paying members to have access to pages unavailable to non-members visiting the site. They have provided me with a spreadsheet of their current membership and details for individuals. I'm trying to understand if the user registration solution pack is the way to go to achieve what this organization wants. Or is that overkill and something like Security Assist would do fine. Also is it possible that I can import the membership file into a MySQL database and when someone logs in, they are allowed access to the extra pages on the site if they are in that database already? Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm obviously struggling with the whole concept and which WA product might be of best use.

User Registration solution pack is a prebuilt solution, so if your data doesn't match the ones stored in the database created for the solution, it will require more work to modify to work with your site. It is simple to implement if no modifications are required.

SecurityAssist allows you to customize your pages more easily, but you will have to know a little more about what you are doing.

What are the different information that you are storing in the database (username, password, usertype, etc)? If its close to what is stored in the database for the solution it might be easier to use the solution pack. If you let me know I can point you in the right direction.
