PowerStore 3: NO TESTING SERVER FUNCTIONALITY

PowerStore 3: NO TESTING SERVER FUNCTIONALITY

I have read through other's complaints and problems of PowerStore 3's inability to run on a testing server and have tried to implement suggestions to no avail. I posted earlier today with no replies and am frustrated. I have set it up various ways as a local server and even deleted the PowerStore Connection database and tried numerous solutions..I am running XAMPP with CS4 on Intel Machine...database connection says established either with remote server or localhost but it still won't work. I even enabled the "Curl"feature in the xampp ini file as suggested as well.

Jason ByrnesWebAssist

can you please give some more specifics?

I have installed PowerStore on a local testing server many times, it can be done.

what specifically is the problem you are encountering?

Do you get an error message?

What is the text of the error message?

once we have some idea of the specific problem you are having we will be able to provide some guidance to resolve the issue.

Installed Power Store 3 on local xaamp server!

Marky,
I had some issues in the begiining, but following what Jason posted should fix the problem as long as you have the database setup,
Insure your paths to the xaamp/htdocs/Power Store 3 are correct in CS4 for the site.
Hey, I know your frustration, But hope you have it working, If not let me know, as I am here most of the time!

Still inoperative!

I have done a clean install through localhost with a new empty database using XAMPP..everything went perfect, no errors..if I browse through internet explorer I can see the site and enter through Admin....
BUT: when I open the site in Dreamweaver CS4 all the files have a lock on them and I see the PHP markers..not the complete page...do I need to delete or alter the Database connection in Dreamweaver to make it work?

Locked...

Just click on the files and you can unlock them by checking them out not a big deal. The php icons indicate the php code in the files, thats how Dreamweaver displays code in the design view. Look at the code button above the display window.

Hi Marky,

I had these issues too. I am using windows vista and DW CS4. How I solved it was I went to "my Computer" located "My Documents" and located my site folder eg "mypowerstore". I right clicked on my site folder and clicked on "properties". I then UNCHECKED the "read only" checkbox. Windows or Mac will prompt you if you want to remove "read only" from all other sub-folders, click the yes button. When you go into dreamweaver and refresh, all your files should be unlocked.

The second issue arises because powerstore is using php includes for the menu text and some images. Thats why you can see all the php icons on tyhe page, it is not an error. If you are using cs3 or cs4 you can click on the live code button to view your complete page in dreamweaver.

Take a look at the attached...

I have attached two photos, PS2.jpeg and PS3.jpeg respectively....to show what I am seeing...I have been using PS2 with NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER...I have also installed PS3 numerous times with no errors and complete verification of database connections...yet I still keep seeing only the PHP markup tags...unlike how PS2 loads...

Would someone please explain a workaround or why I am seeing what I am seeing?

Thanks so much-

neilo

That is how everyone sees it in design view in Dreamweaver. That's what the tags always look like. Dreamweaver isn't a browser, - even 'Live' view rarely renders things correctly. The extra PHP tags are because there is added dynamic functionality in this version. Now, if you didn't see the tags, - then you'd have reason to worry.

It looks like you are up to par with everyone else - I'd go as far as to say that you are one of the luckier ones.

You can also remove read only directly from within Dreamweaver. Right-click your folders (or the root folder) in your 'files' panel, and select 'Turn off read only'.

Also, if you didn't have a database connection, you wouldn't be seeing what you are showing us in the screen shots. (content + menus etc are drawn from the database).

I appreciate your reply, but could you explain to me why I can see everything in Powerstore 2 but not Powerstore 3? What is the difference between the two that makes the viewing different?
