SMTP Settings for Yahoo Small Business Users

I am currently using Yahoo Small Business Web Hosting services. I have called them on numerous occasions to obtain settings that will allow me to utilize Universal Email, such as the SMTP settings, etc. Their help site provides the following [/usr/sbin/sendmail] to indicated the path to their sendmail in sending using using PHP; however, I am having a touch time integrating this into UE. Is tech support able to assist me in setting up email using UE with Yahoo settings?

You will need to have SMTP server details in order to use UE. A sendmail page is a type of page that you can post a form to and have it email the contents. UE works differently, it writes the code to send an email directly from your page without having to send the info somewhere else. In order to craft the code that sends the email correctly you will need to have the details for an SMTP sever that can be used to send emails. Without these details you will not be able to make use of UE.

In your experience, have you had success with users of UE setting up UE capabilities utilizing yahoo webhosting service? If so, how can I set up UE on my website. I understand and have followed the set-up steps Webassist has provided. I am unable to get emails submitted successfully. I could really use some help. I know my smtp settings (smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com). Is it even possible to use UE with Yahoo webhosting?

I do not know if it is possible to use UE with Yahoo webhosting. I think your best bet would be to contact your technical support for the hosting and ask them about the specific scenario you have.

Essentially you will need to know if you can use a php mail call within your scripts and if so you should request and example script. If you can post back with this we should be able to take a look to see if you can use UE for this. Here is a link to the mail page on the php site:

Thank you for your reply. I believe Yahoo does allow for use of php mail. Their online help files provide a generic script (copy and paste this link to review what yahoo has to say about sending php mail: php-17.html)

Unfortunately, this is all that Yahoo provides in the form of a script.

Just so you know, I have already completed Perl/PHP mail setup that they instruct the developer to do. My php email address I have setup with Yahoo is webmaster@hrconsortium.net. Yahoo also places a limit of 250 emails per day. This limit is not an issue at the current time.

Upon your review of this information, please forward any recommendations, settings, etc. I am really in a bind here. I would like to incorporate the use of Webassist's dreamweaver extensions, including your user registration packet, ecart, and dataassist. It apparent that you utilize UE for all its email function needs. If there is a way to use UE, I sure would like to know to make things more easy.

The page describes using a send mail setup. Usually this a script that will send the emails for you if you sent it the correctly formatted info. This is different than how UE works. Using UE will create a page for you that is like your sendmail page. It creates the page that will send the email message and the code that will access this page to have the message sent.

You need to have access to a regular SMTP server and have the ability to use the php mail() function call in your scripts. You will need to contact your host and get the specifics about this. If you are able to use the php mail call in your pages then try to obtain a sample script with the php mail call in it. This should tell us the info we need to know.

I can contact my host and see if I can obtain the necessary information you outlined. However, would any of your fellow technical support engineers know or may have learned of or acquired the necessary script(s), SMTP server settings, and/or php mail() function calls that Yahoo webhosting makes available so one can use your UE extension? I am assuming that someone, somewhere may have come to you and inquired with you about this same issue. I cannot be the only one that has runned into this brick wall?

I have asked around within the support and engineering depts. and could not find any specific info about this scenario. I did learn a little about the sendmail setup though. If your host is using a sendmail setup for the mailing this is fine. Rather than referring to a form parsing and mailing script I think your hosts sendmail configuration is referring to the method used behind the scenes when a script sends an email message.

If you can provide a sample php script with the mail() function being called we should be able to get your UE page working for you.

When you ask for a sample php script with the mail() function, are you just asking for just any sample script with mail() function? If so, I can send you one with no problem. I have been trying some sample php mail() scripts. Here is a sample I have used from about.com: 1) How_to_Send_Email_from_a_PHP_Script.htm.

The sample I used from about.com works with Yahoo webhosting. I was able to send a successful test run. However, since the script is relatively basic, there appears to be no html function. Is this what you are asking for?

If you are using all of the same settings with your Universal Email it should definitely be sending the emails out the same. I have opened a ticket for you on this so that we can look into the issue further. To update the ticket login and visit you support history.
