Installation problems and questions

Hi, I have read a few posts here indicating that PS3 often isn't compatible with shared hosting, however, that only seems to be during the installation process. So, is it not possible to install PS3 on your local PC (the one you develop on), and then simply upload it to your host via dreamweaver and MySQL administrator as one did for PS2?

Also, I would like to keep all of the product info I currently have in my PS2, but I am not sure if the two databases are compatible. Am I able to retain the PS2 product info and load it into the PS3 database, and if so, how can I do it?

Thanks

Mat

Hello,

I don't know if this is possible - but I assume it is possible.

However, I only bought the upgrade (in the absence of any comprehensive set-up training videos) because it was stated that the Wizard installs it for you. Retrospectively, there is now a note on the Sys Reqs to indicate the problems with the Installation Wizard.

Hope this helps others.

You only need to add CREATE VIEW privileges to the user account for your database. The installation checks to make sure this is available.

If you can't do this through your control panel, you can try the command line approach.

It just depends on what your host allows. You don't often have much control of things when using shared resources.

Here are some tips for selecting a host:

From the FAQ:

If you have a PowerStore 2 installation already running, you can replace the PowerStore 2 files with PowerStore 3. Then follow the tutorial here for instructions on upgrading your PowerStore 2 database to work with the PowerStore 3 files.

We have a tutorial on how you can do this. Basically, you would install PowerStore 3 using the same database (it creates completely different tables). Then run the script included in the tutorial to migrate your product, user, category, order details, etc. to the new tables.

For more information, see the Upgrading from PowerStore 2 tutorial on the PowerStore Support Page powerstore/.
