Forms - differences between Data Pages and Insert New Form

Forms - differences between Data Pages and Insert New Form

Apologies in advance if this gets a bit confusing.

I will say that I think I've resolved any issues, so am really more interested in checking a few things to help with my understanding of what is doing what.

I recently set up some forms using WA > Forms > Insert New Form, and found it worked perfectly, and especially great now that validation and CAPTCHA elements can be included in the same single set up.

So that's all fine.

But I did manage to get a bit mixed up at the weekend doing other forms that I also wanted to capture the contents into a database, so I used WA > Database > Data Assist Pages, just to create an insert page.

This is all good too - but although as far as I can tell you can't add / include CAPTCHA elements as part of that set up in the same way you can using Insert New Form.

So I was using WA > Forms > Insert CAPTCHA after creating my form.

This is where I got thrown when it didn't work.

To cut a long story short, the bit that threw me was the way the code for the errors are created. I have attached form1.php. If you look at line 6 the original validation errors are referenced by:

WAVT_form1_Errors.

But when the CAPTCHA is added, they are referenced underneath on line 26 as:

WAVT_form1_043_Errors

But in the Validation Show If... code on lines 296 - 305, they are given the original reference of form1.

So as far as I can tell, the only manual edit in the end to fix it, was to delete '_043' from lines 26 and 34.

I'll stop there for now - does that make sense so far?

Is that me missing something, or is that a bug?

Looking at the video here, I don't think I missed anything.

the probelm is that you added a second Server validation server behavior to the page.

instead of adding another server validation behavior for the captcha, you should have edited the existing one that was already on the page to add the captcha validation.

Ah! Yes - just tried that, and that all looks much tidier.

I was just following the video on that link (from around 3:10) - it looked like you just go to WA > Forms > Validation > Server Validation to add it, which is what I had been doing.

Given that the example form there appears to have existing validations before the CAPTCHA is added, it is perhaps a little misleading?

If you look at the screenshot of the server behaviors panel at 3:14, there is no Server Validation behavior added

most likely this form was initially created with only client side validation.
