Periods, commas and hypens not acceptable in check pages

Hi,

Is there a way to allow periods or hypens in names on the checkout page? We have a client that has had errors at checkout because they are attempting to enter a city that has a period in it or a hypened name e.g. Diane Miller-Jones or St. Peter

Validation is in place on this page but I'm wondering if we have something turned on that is not allowing these entries to be accepted.

I will attached the pages so you can take a look.

Thanks,

Jackie

you are using the Alpha numeric validation type. this only allows letters and numbers to be used.

if you wish top allow periods and hyphens, you need to edit the validation to enter those as excepted characters.

open the behaviors panel, then select the form tag in order to edit the validations that are in place.

thanks Jason,

What page should be open to see this in the server behaviors? I have the checkout page open and I am not seeing anything regarding validation. Sounds pretty straight forward but I'm not seeing where I need to open the validation.

Thanks again.

you will not see this in the server behaviors panel.

it is client side validation, so you need to use the Server Behaviors panel.

you should have the checkout page open.

I came across the same issue. A client of mine emailed me with the following:

"recently a customer called about her frustrations with checking out her cart with the delivery/billing address information page on my site. She said she was determined to figure out why her normal address was not being accepted and her form was not accepted until she completely spelled out normally abbreviated words IE(st. street, ave. avenue, apt. apartment etc) so if this is really the issue can it be changed because I receive so many calls/emails with frustrated people and who knows what customers don't call but go somewhere else."

Tried to follow the above instructions which were posted in 2013 but to no avail. When I click on Server Behaviors I have a list which corresponds to the checkout.php page ie.
Dynamic Text Field (firstname)
Validation Show If (confirm.php)
and the list continues to cover every field of the form

When the line "Dynamic Text Field (firstname)" is selected a window appears titled Dynamic Text Field
Text field: "firstname" in form"ecart_check... is grayed out
Set value to: <?php echo(ValidatedField("confirm_273","firstname")) ?> and a lightning bolt button
Clicking on the lightning bolt, window appears for setup instructions
Not sure if the setup instructions box is what is required for the validation to accept a period, comma, or hyphen
Is there a simple way of altering the code.
You have been great bailing me out in the past with this client. Thanks in advance
Using eCart 6.1.0, Mac OS 10.5.8, Dreamweaver CS4

I don't think this post is related to this issue.

First we have to figure out why this is happening. Are you able to reproduce the problem on the customer's site?

It could be a validation issue. Do you have a copy of the page where it happens and a url where I can do some testing of the live page?

Please attach a copy of the confirm.php page. It appears that would be the page with the server validation that is failing. It should be easy to walk you through the solution once I see that file. I was able to reproduce the problem and it seems like it is just the server validation settings on the confirm.php page that need to be updated.

Open and edit the Server Validation server behavior on this page. It looks like you are using AlphaNumeric validation, which won't allow any special characters like commas and punctuation. You can change those from Alpha-Numeric to Required validation in order to allow any characters, or update the Alpha-Numeric to specify additional characters you would like to allow such as commas, dashes, and apostrophes.
