PayPal Payment Gateway suggestion.

Before starting creating the Checkout page I need to know what PayPal Payment Gateway to choose.
I found out there are different PayPal payment , for example PayPal Standard, PayPal Express Checkout, PayPal Payment Pro and Payflow Payment Gateway.
Which one do you recommend for a correct functioning with eCart5?
Thank you in advance.

If you are using PayPal I would strongly recommend using Payments Pro. The Payments Pro option lets users enter credit card details directly on your site on the checkout page as well as click on a button to pay with PayPal. Payments Pro consists of Direct Pay (credit card) and Express Checkout (pay with PayPal) together so that your user has a choice.

If Payments Pro is not an option for you I think Express Checkout would be second best. I would not recommend using Payments Standard, it can be very difficult to get working correctly and does not provide the best user experience.

Hi Eric,
I would go with PayPal Payments Pro. I read a little bit about it ,it sounds suitable to me.
I talked to my client and he agrees with PayPal option but he wants to know if it's secure enough and
ask me these questions that I do not know the answer.
Questions):
For example if a buyer makes a purchase through this website and seller (my client)receives the money
through PayPal and ships the item, and then after a while the buyer says that he never receives the item and request to refund his money.
1) Is there any warranty from PayPal Payments Pro?
2) How secure these transactions by PayPal functions to assure both buyer and seller?
3) Do PayPal Payments Pro keep the customers info in order to keep tracking of the items sold and a customer listing for future marketing?
Thank you for any info.

These are all very good questions, but I do not know the answers. I think it would be best if you contacted PayPal about this directly, I'm sure that they could answer all of your questions and more. Here is a link to the Payments Pro info page, there are contact numbers and options listed here.

Eric,
Thank you. I will check with PayPal.

I have a question regarding my shoppingcart.php. I can see the Shipping,Tax and Subtotal column in Dreamwever CS3 Design view but not in the FireFox browser. It shows correctly only Grand Total. Is that normal?
I am wondering because I did not yet set the Tax/Shipping rate value up.
Could be this the reason?

In DW in design view you will see how the page is layed out with all of the dynamic areas visible. The reason you are not seeing them in your browser is because the values for these areas don't exist yet. You will need to have valid tax and shipping rules that are triggered in order to see the values here. Once you add them you will then see these lines in your cart.

PayPal Payment Standard or Express Check out

Eric,
Thanks for clarifying the Tax/Shipping display in the Browser. I was thinking the same thing.

PayPal Payment Standard or Express Check out
I saw some document regarding Payment Standard and Express Checkout. However I need some clarification about both options. I exclude the PayPal Pro after talking with my client and because he wants to start this experience without paying any extra fees. That's why I come to decide between two options.
According to what you mentioned in other thread in the forum you recommend the PayPal Express Check out:

The regular Payments Standard option is quite different, when the user checks out with this option they are taken to PayPal with the cart contents being transferred. They can login to pay and finish the transaction on PayPal. After the transaction is complete and if you have auto return enabled the user will go back to your site. However you will no know the status of the transaction. You will have to have an IPN page that will listen for the PayPal notification about the transaction and update your db and send an email or do some other stuff.

So with Express Checkout you do not pass values to PayPal, you just login and return to the site. Then you complete the transaction on your site knowing instantly weather it was successful or not.

This Express Checkout sounds ok to me and I would like to choose it for Payment method. The only downside is that it does not give the Credit Card option to the buyer. It has only the PayPal option. This is what I saw in their Demo. I would appreciate it to know your opinion.

I would definitely suggest going with Express Checkout if this will work for you. As for paying by credit card with this method that is controlled through something called PayPal Account Optional. You might have a setting for this in your profile on PayPal. With this option turned on you can have the user login to PayPal to pay or they can click on a link on the left of the page that says 'continue checkout'. In all of my testing I have this option available to me so it seems to be pretty standard.

You should check this out to see if it is what you need for the checkout.

Eric,
Thanks for clarification.
I've already checked it out in PayPal profile and apparently there is a way to get work the Checkout Express to show both options "Pay with PayPal" and "Credit Card". I will deeply test it later.
Thanks again.
