rating

Greetings testers, community experts and those that have randomly discovered the URL for WebAssist's 2013 website beta!

We here at WebAssist have decided to take our entire website in a new direction. A direction that is focused on making our community more successful with their web development endeavors. A direction that also intends to make your interaction with WebAssist and other community members faster and easier.

This tutorial will point out some areas that will help you get started using the new website. It will also point out some new features that we think you'll be interested in.

As you are exploring the site, please take notice of any functionality that may be broken and let us know by commenting on this tutorial. Please feel free to let us know if something doesn't work as you believe it should. Or just simply let us know what you like... and what you don't.

All in all, we are very excited about WebAssist's new make-over. We believe that our efforts are going to reward the members of our community every bit as much as it rewards us.

Thank you, and happy testing!

arrow downForums!

WebAssist forums are a place where members of our community communicate with us and each other.

Because WebAssist forums are so focused on collaboration and the exchange of ideas, we've completely re-built our forum code from the ground up! No more Vbulletin!

Creating our own custom forum code allowed us to tailor our forums to the needs of our community. The following features have been implemented to make our forums unique and extremely beneficial to the WebAssist Community:

  1. Real-time 'as you type' search results based on your search terms
  2. Right-click RTF editing of forum content
  3. Ability to set content to be 'public' or 'private'
  4. Ability to make attachments 'public' or 'private'
  5. Subscribe to threads and forums
  6. Update and delete posts

Step 1: Search the forums

Access the forums from the Home Page at Community > Community Forums or by visiting the following URL: https://www.webassist-beta.com/forums/

Enter search terms and optionally specify a forum to search and results will be filtered on-the-fly. Further refinement to your keywords will update your results as you go. No form submission is necessary!

Step 2: Make a new forum post

From the forum page, select the 'Ask a question | Get technical support link'

Select the topic or category that your question applies to, and enter your question/forum topic.

You will immediately see posts pertaining to your question and even tutorials designed to assist you with your issue...

If these resources don't provide you with a solution (and a lot of the time they will!), click on 'Ask a Technical Support a question'.

You'll be presented with a new light-box where you can craft your question/forum post:

Within this light-box, you'll be able to:

  1. Enable RTF (Rich Text Formating) right-click functionality.
  2. Add and manage attachments for your post
  3. Specify whether attachments are to be publicly viewable
  4. Craft your question/forum post

Once you have submitted your post, you will be redirected to it. Once there, you can reply, update, and delete your posts as well as manage your supporting attachments.

arrow downMy Account

My Account has always been a place where WebAssist Community Members can make changes to their personal information and access their download history and Product Activation numbers. This is still true, but numerous improvements have been made.

We've added a 'Public Community Profile' where you can tell others about yourself as well as show off your work. Other Community Members will be able to locate and contact you about your work if you choose to have your info made visible to them.

You'll also be able to show off your work by listing sample websites and tutorials that you've authored on your portfolio page. Ultimately, the goal here is to get new customers in touch with YOU, the developer.

We hope these improvements and new features make you, the developer, more successful. Your success is WebAssist's success!

Step 1: My Profile

From the My Profile tab, you will be able to do the following:

  1. Change your login email address and password
  2. Edit your personal contact information
  3. Edit your Community Profile
  4. Edit your Community Contributions - including sample websites and authored tutorials
  5. Edit your company information
  6. View your Order History

Step 2: Downloads

The downloads section is just what it sounds like it is - a location where you can quickly locate items from your order history and download them.

Your most recent and up to date items are listed here, but you can further access your entire download history as well by clicking the 'ALL MY DOWNLOADS' link. There, the following categories of download items are listed:

Current Products - listed again for convenience
Upgradeable Products - items that you qualify to purchase at a reduced upgrade price
Discontinued Products - items no longer supported by WebAssist that are still available for download
Archived Products - older versions of products that you own

Step 3: My Upgrades

Did you miss a recent product launch announcement from WebAssist? Or are you thinking about buying the latest and greatest version from WebAssist's product line and you want to know if you qualify for special pricing? This is the place to look.

Any time a new product launches and it contains a prior version of functionality that you already own, it will appear here. It will also show the discounted upgrade pricing that you qualify for!

Step 4: Support

In the Support section, every forum post you have ever made will be displayed. Pretty straight-forward!

little thing, the step 1 login link throws up a security message on my PC, (chrome),

This is probably not the site you are looking for!
You attempted to reach www.webassist-beta.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as webassist-beta.com. This may be caused by a misconfiguration on the server or by something more serious. An attacker on your network could be trying to get you to visit a fake (and potentially harmful) version of www.webassist-beta.com.

Thanks, CraigR!
