WebAssist Responsive Mode

I have been wanting to create WA products that present a responsive/ mobile friendly page for some time without much success.

However I used a product from ProjectSeven.com which has enabled me to get Search, Results and Details pages all responsive without too much fuss.

The software from ProjectSeven is called Layout Builder Magic or LBM for short.

Good comprehensive instructions for LBM are available and it's a good idea to have some practice sessions with LBM and get familiar with this software. Like all these things it's easy when you know how to do it!

The responsive process is as follows:

Create a LBM Page and place in a header row and other rows as you require to give header, menu areas, a blank row for the "body" and a footer if required.

When this looks OK save it as a Dreamweaver Template and insert an Edit region which will later contain the WA pages.

Create the WA Search, Results and Detail pages with suitable names and locations.
These will be required soon.

In Dreamweaver Go to the WebAssist tab >Database > Data Assist Pages
A wizard will open and in Page settings if you already have your database and connection prepared you will find your connection listed.

I found it easier to select <new from Blank> as the application Type. Select the database table you wish to use and the key column will be shown.

Now open the tab Manage Pages
This area creates the WA pages code.
There is a Plus sign, click it and you will see a selection box with required page types.
Select search (if this is required), to create the Search page.
A new wizard will appear with another Plus sign.
Click it.
Here you can select the fields you wish to search on and the search criteria.
Click OK.
This takes you back to the first wizard.
At this point navigate to the file you created for your Search Page and that name and location folder will be shown in the Page Name and Location box.

The finished Search page should show the search form and and search box.

Repeat this complete procedure for the Results and Detail pages.

I called my test example WASearch.php and similar for Results and Details

Open the Search Page and in Dreamweaver select Modify > Templates > Apply Template to Page.
The template will the accomodate the WASearch page which should be responsive and have other advanced aspects of the LBM software

The Results (List) area does not seem to collapse as much as I would like but I hope that can be improved.

I haven't tried this yet but if it works it will be of tremendous help to me. Thank you for figuring this out and sharing.

When I carried this out it worked very well but lately in some areas it does not work as well as it did at first.
The reason is I believe, that it worked quite well when used with tables but some areas are now using divs in place of tables, maybe updates and I have had less success than previous.

I have several PVII products including LBM and it would be great to be able to reliably merge the responsiveness of some of their apps with the WA Products. Or is the WA stuff more responsive than I'm giving them credit for? I hardly see the word on their website.

All their latest extensions are responsive.
The short answer is make a copy of a page and try the extension out.
Cheers

John
