IE6 (Internet Explorer 6) CSS MenuWriter Menu Does Not Work

IE6 (Internet Explorer 6) CSS MenuWriter Menu Does Not Work

DW CS3
Windows XP SP3
WA CSS Menuwriter latest

I cannot get a simple horizontal menu with drop downs, to work in IE6. It displays the top-level menu but:

1. Moving the mouse along the menu bar causes menu elements to blink off.

2. The sub menu elements do not work at all. It's so screwed up I'm not even going to try and describe it all.

I have uploaded a sample. This page only has the menu directly from MenuWriter. I have not added anything to this sample to make sure I was not introducing anything else to cause the problems.

Hi WA,

I need some help with this. (forgot to say that in the original post).

Tested in IETester 0.4.1 (IE6)

What am I doing wrong??

Thanks,
David

I have tested this page out in IE6 and FireFox 3 for comparison. What I see from both of these browsers is pretty much the same. I could not distinguish any differences. I'm including a screen shot of what I see in IE 6. I'm not using IE tester but a native version of IE 6, here are my stats:

6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp3_gdr.090206-1234
update versions: SP2; 3283

I did notice that it took a second for the images to load for the sub nav as I was hovering over them but that was not any different than what I experienced in FireFox.

Thanks for your reply Eric.

I will have to look for a way to actually run IE6 on Windows to confirm what you have reported as this is the first time I have personally run into a case of someone saying that IETester is not accurate when displaying a page in IE6 mode.

Does anyone else have a PC running IE6 that could test this menu?

Thanks,
David

Menu on IE 6 does and does not work

Your menu looks just fine on a Sony laptop on Windows 1998 and IE 6.

The menu I just created does NOT work on above system/browser - it shows only test and the drop-downs display small dotted lines:
template_subs.html

Anyone have a solution?

It looks as though you may not have uploaded your IE specific CSS file. I get a 404 when I try to browse to it:

menu_ie.css

and

menu_ie.css

Make sure that you get all of the files in the CSSMenuWriter folder uploaded to the site and check it again. I think this should get it working for you.

Where do I find the menu ie css files?

They should be inside of the CSSMenuWriter folder that was created in Dreamweaver.

Thanks!

Now how about this problem:

On this page (and the other one previously mentioned),
template_home.html
when you use the Google Translate button, the menu changes to text in IE8 and in all other browsers I checked (Safari, Firefox on Macs) BUT it DOES NOT on this old IE4 on a pc!

Any other css pages missing?

I can't speak to the result you are getting in IE4 as I have never used it. I can see what you are talking about though when you click on the translate button. It looks like the page is being served up through a Google API when you do this. In order for this to work you may need to update links to your css to be absolute web URLs instead of relative paths.

So you can change any links to the CSSMenWriter folder to be fully qualified like this:

CSSMenuWriter

If that is the path to the folder on your site. I think if you had it updated like this you may get a better result.
