Does this happen with any image you try to upload? How were these images generated?

Have you tried various different jpegs, and images received from different sources? Occasionally (but admittedly infrequently) images saved as jpegs or Gifs have been through some kind of graphics software which re-encodes them and for some reason even if they display OK, can occasionally beoccasionally rejected by other software as being 'wrong format'.

That is highly unlikely if it is happening with all images from different sources.

If you would like to post one of these images (must be in a zip file) I can see if it will import OK into my CMS.

image upload

thanks neilo, thanks for showing up again..lol, so far ive tried using so many different images..jpegs/ gifs. and im getting the same error every time...saved images from different sources to ive rightclicked and saved images directly to my computer...ive used photoshop..kodac/media impressions...also downloaded directly from my dropshipping site..nothing works..also as far as attatchment.. i could not upload zip file without error so i uploaded this file not sure if it would help...also, if you like i could email you my admin credentials so you could try to upload something yourself.....they could always be changed...also ive made sure the image file in file manager/cpanel had user permissions..any idea if im overlooking anything...thanks again..really hoping i could figure this out..

Hi Michael,

Well - I'm having mixed results here (some are bad, some are dreadful).

When I first went in to Powerstore Admin and added a new product, I used your image and it uploaded ok. I tootled off to check other stuff, and came back just to re-test.

Now when I try to create a new product and upload an image (any one) the 'Please enter a valid file (.gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .png).' error displays.

When I click 'cancel' I can leave the page. When I click 'New Product' the page opens with any info I entered the last time still there, plus the error messages.

I exit the PCMS pages all together, clear my browser cache, close and open the Browser again and go back to Admin to try to add a new product. The old page comes back with the old info and the 'valid file' error messages.

So as far as that goes, I am now in the same boat as you!

However, - and it may be the same for you - if I go to a 'Products' and then choose to update a product that has already been added, I can use any images from my machine, including the one you posted.

So it's not a permissions issue (I believe). Images can be uploaded from the Update Page, but (apparently*) not from the Insert page.

NOW*: I went to check in my Images/Upload directory using my FTP programme, and there are now a dozen of so copies of your file (names changed with incremental value) and a couple of dozen random images I tried from my machine, all of which the image upload error message in the Insert new item page said were invalid file types.

SO: The images ARE uploading, BUT for some reason, the validation on the file field id is failing when it shouldn't.

I have no idea what causes this, but the problem seems to be just a tiny glitch with validation that turns in to a huge problem with functionality.

I will do some poking about this evening (and after that I'll have another look at this problem) and let you know if I find anything out.

I don't have any real-life products in the database yet, so will clear all values from phpMyAdmin then start afresh to find out exactly when the error appears. I will need to do that anyway, as I can't get a 'clean' add-a-product page to test with.

In the mean time, hopefully this info will be useful to any WA_guy who feels it would be nice to spend his Sunday looking at problems concerning WA_stuff.

Cheers.

After Tea Update: Not sure if it helps, but when I remove both the thumb and image validation code from the insert page, the images upload with out a problem. I currently have a baby for sale for $9.00.

The more I go on, the greater the paranoia that I might be missing some obvious setting, or some step in the guide. Have a cople of things to try, yet. All a bit academic this, 'cause Jason will pop back in tomorrow and post, "Change (this) to (that)", and that'll be it.

Just to update,

Cleared my cache, Replaced the insert new product page with a clean copy, deleted image files from server and info from db.

Now I can't get it not to work. I used your image Michael, and a load of others. I am curious as to why it failed the first time - up until the point I removed the images/thumbs validation code, and as to why all is working well - now that things are back to how they were.

Michael, just so I know if our situations are similar, - are your files also actually being uploaded to your images/uploads folder?

Hi Michael,

Yes, the Guys here can do that for you if they need to. But they will know the right questions to ask, and may be able to put their finger on it pretty quickly once they have the answers they need.

I was sure that we were both experiencing the same problem, so curiouser and curiouser. Just to be clear, the images folder for the uploads is Images/Uploads - and my permissions are 755. The problem I had went away. I needed to completely close and reopen my browser though to get rid of any error as they occurred.

It will get sorted, so don't worry. I don't know where you are, but I'm SW UK so for me, the WA people will be starting their day at around 4.00pm tomorrow, and will have a weekends worth of posts to catch up on.

I will be keeping an eye open to see what happens with this!

Cheers.

Try downloading a new copy of PowerStore from the site and replacing the WA_DigitalFilePro and WA_ValidationToolkit directory and the products_Insert.php page and see if you still get the error.
