DF 1 and 2

DF 1 and 2

I have multiple DF Pro 1 sites in ASP, and of course I need to maintain them even sometimes add new upload pages etc. I would like to have the benefits of DF Pro 2 for PHP work (Never mind I'm very disappointed by ASP support being dropped).
Can I have DF Pro 1 and DF Pro 2 loaded in dreaweaver (using CS4) at the same time or do they conflict with each other?

You will not be able to install both version 1 and version 2 of the software. This is prevented by the extension manager.

SO Digital File Pro is useless if you must support old sites?

I'm sorry, but I'm in disbelief!
You release an upgrade to a product which drops 50% of the functionality, and is totally incompatible with the previous version! Furthermore if the new version 2.0 is installed it will prevent any maintenance of past work because of the functionality you dropped. Web Assist has made it impossible for anyone with ASP sites to even use the new product since they will be unable to support existing clients if they install version 2!
All I can say is that you had better provide a MAJOR warning when upgrading so that people know how badly broken the backward compbatablity path is.
I have been a huge fan of WA, in fact I think I own ever product you have released until the most recent versions, and routinely defended WA against its critics until now. While I'm stuck with your products I'm no longer a fan, in fact I'm afraid I wouldn't even recommend your products again.

!!!This is a very serious failure!!!.
I totally understand that ASP is at end of life, but that doesn't mean that ASP sites are going away any time soon. I also understand the logical business decision to stop supporting ASP in new products, but I CAN'T BELIEVE that you don't provide any mechanism for your users to upgrade to the new product and still support their existing client base!

When you choose to break all backward compatibility for ASP you need to make new products that install seperately so that both versions can remain in play. You have effectivly driven me to DMXZone because I can't afford to install your new version for my PHP clients and leave all my ASP clients hanging. How can I possibly express enough frustration! I had every plan of buying 2.0 thank goodness I didn't! Man would I have been angry then, at least I'm just disappointed at the death of a long term relationship with a supplier I used to really like.

Digital File Pro 2 prevents supporting ASP.

One more Post Script, the extension manager doesn't prevent running versions 1 and 2 concurrently, the very poor planing of Web Assist in releasing the new product as an upgrade instead of a new product prevents running versions 1 and 2 at the same time! You screwwed up and screwed all you ASP clients, but the least you can do is man up and take responsibility.

I am sorry to her that. I was not trying to push the blame. What I meant was at that step, since it is the same product, just a new version it cannot be installed by extension manager at the same time. The reason it is a new version and not a new product is because it has the same purpose with added functionality (other than the removal of server languages other than PHP). It has shared code that and some modified code in the updated version.

I see where you're coming from though, but we are unable to create a build of version 1 that would be able to be installed with version 2. The only way to have them concurrently installed is to have 2 versions of Dreamweaver installed and one version installed on each.
