Site Assist 3

Site Assist 3

I bought Super Suite last year before the CS4 updates came out, understanding that CS4 updates would be available.

Webassit have been quite dilligent in making the included extensions CS4 compatible, as mooted, but have not made the included Site Assist compatible.

Instead they have now elected to call my version Site Assist 3, have discontinued it, and have replaced it with a new product now called "Site Assist Pro", which is CS4 compatible.

Incidentally the current version of Super Suite, at the same price I paid, includes "Site Assist Pro" as a replacement to Site Assist (3?).

I think Webassist have an obligation to provide current owners of Super Suite a free upgrade to Site Assist Pro, or make Site Assist (3?) Dreamweaver CS4 compatible, as they have done with the rest of the Super Suite extensions.

Currently Webassist are charging for the upgrade to Site Assist Pro, and have discontinued Site Assist (3?)

Any comments from other forum users would be appreciated.

Hi
I have the same problem, unfortunatly webassist do not do customer service very well so you wont have any explenation to what has happend and why they wont do a cs4 update for site assist.

They choose to ignore posts like this.

Webassist claim that "Site Assist Pro" is a different beast, which is why they are charging previous Super Suite owners $$99.95 for the update.

If this is the case, then why is the current version of Super Suite the same price as my version. Especially considering it includes Site Assist Pro plus other extensions not included in my version, like CSS Menus that I paid extra for.

I guess previous purchasers of Super Suite are another source of revenue.

I have no objection to paying for an upgrade to a better and different product. but in this case I have no version of "Site Assist" that is CS4 compatible.

We updated any products sold up to six months before cs4 was released. We had stopped selling Site Assist over a year before CS4 was released.

Site Assist Pro is a far superior product. It allows you to use css sculptor and css menu writer as well as your own templates to create your own designs for pages. It alows you to define your own contents and share those things with a layout manager.

We don't always update the price of Super Suite when we add more extensions. Since new extensions are added so frequently and our Super Suite always includes all of our product line. Did you pay full price for super suite? At the time you purchased we ran quite a few 50% off sales. We don't offer sales on super suite any more. This is partually due to the added features and works as an effective price change. Market conditions don't really allow us to update the price much higer, so we hope to gain extra revenue by adding those features to promote sales.

Upgrade revenue is probably the majority of our revenue on a release. I guess in a way current users do contribute to the development of the product line and in return new users are able to benefit from the existing user's contribution. But in the meantime you are able to benefit by using the product over that timeperiod. Most technology products decline in price rapidly. The fact that it has stayed the same price is actually a reflection of rapid evolution and updates otherwise the price would naturally fall as demand deminished for an old and outdated product.

Did this help? Tips are appreciated...

Ian

I dont see the problem with this to be fair.

If its a new problem, with superior features then I would expect you to have to pay for these additional features.

Considering that you bought the Super Suite you have had most of your software for a fraction of its actual value anyway!

updates and discounts

I also have purchased previous versions, and while it would be awesome to get a free update to the new product, really? It doesn't work that way with any other software company ... I don't know how much you paid for your CS4, but mine sure wasn't free!

Since the new WA products have come out, I have received a steady stream of discounted offers to upgrade to the newer versions. Some I have purchased, some I have not. But all-in-all I have always been very pleased with my entire WA experience. (ha ha maybe this suck up entry will get me a free version upgrade LOL!!!!)

HI martine302900, sure, but you didn't read my post properly.

I was not interested in buying Site Assist Pro, because I was already happy with Site Assist.
I was forced to buy the pro version, because, contrary to promises at purchase, not all Super Suite extensions were made CS4 compatible.

I agree, Webassist should charge for "Upgrades", but had indicated at the time I purchased that Super Suite extensions would be made CS4 compatible.

Incidentally, I have just downloaded many of my Super Suite "CS5" extension updates for free.
Thanks Webassist.
