New user needs help -Dreamweaver code

Please forgive the vague subject!

I just started with PS2 and I am using Dreamweaver CS4 (version 10) as my editor. I am just a very new beginner user to DW.

I have read through the FAQ and getting started guide and I think I understand most of it, allthough I need to do more reading about the WA globals file.

When I open index.php in design view the homepage/storefront does not display properly. I have searched a bit through the forums and found something about site definitions.

Basically when I view in design "the your store message" and most of the buttons above are displayed incorrectly and have php tags around them.

When viewing the code on many lines the <?php are all highlighted red. Is this indicating an error?

I am not sure if it is ok to post the code here or not, please advise.

All of my files are extracted to the root folder, and I have tried opening a few other php files in DW such as "contact us" etc and get the same result.

Thanks for any help, and please let me know if there is anything else I can post here to try and get me headed in the right direction!

When creating the Site Definition for your power store site, did you chose PHP/MySQL as the server language on the Testing Server Tab?

In the training resources section of our site:
resources.php

go to the Dreamweaver Simulations tab and view the tutorials for "Setting up your site" and "Setting up your site for dynamic development" for instructions on how to properly configure your Dreamweaver site.

Jason, thanks for the reply!

I did read that section but will go over it again more thoroughly. I did have my testing server set to php/Mysql, however I only got Appache (Xampp) running correctly once. I will try and reconfigure everything and get that going and also try and get some assistance locally as well.

I guess my question in the mean time is, will the php not display correctly in dreamweaver if I do not have some type of server to work with it...I understand I need a test server to make it display in a browser to see how it looks, but just alone in DW do I also need some kind of PHP/Mysql to render it? ( I realize I still have a lot to learn! ) Thanks!

Dreamweaver renders the "<?php" and "?>" tags in red by default. you can change code highlighting colors in the Dreamweaver preferences:
Edit -> Preferences. Select Code Coloring then, click the Edit Coloring Scheme button.
