Re: "Step 4: Delete entered email" in 'Web Development tutorial series: Add a subscribe/unsubscribe' feature

Re: "Step 4: Delete entered email" in 'Web Development tutorial series: Add a subscribe/unsubscribe' feature

Since upgrading to PHP 7 and MySQLi means I can no longer use PowerMessenger, ran through above tutorial to create subscribe/unsubscribe features.

Subscribe page created OK using tutorial.

For Step 4 which is the Delete entered email step, DataAssist reports that it cannot proceed, giving error message that "SQL type not recognized". After clicking through many of these errors, the dialogue box sits stubbornly reports that it can find no tables.

I am again presuming that it is a MySQLi against MySQL issue?

Thank you,

PowerMessenger has not been updated for use with php7 yet. You will have to run php6 or earlier. MySQLi will still work on the same site as MySQL you just have to run an earlier version. You wouldn't have to update anything on the pages.

Hi,

I upgraded to use a particular piece of forum softward.
PowerMessenger is more useful to me, so I may well abandon it and downgrade.
Decision pending.
Thanks for the info on exactly what the issue might be.

Thank you for your kindness,

I'll see if I have time to update Power Mailer over the next couple of weeks. There aren't that many database references so it shouldn't take too long to do.

That would be appreciated indeed!
However, it is far from a priority as I am managing, and I am sure there are more important projects concerning your other products.
Nevertheless, thank you,

I only just today received a passingly coherent response to my message to Support of my mail company that handles the emails that PowerMessenger generates. The last part of what they say is:

"To investigate … could you please use the website and script to send an email to me at xxxxxxxxx ? Please let me know once the email is sent and I'll check on this. If this email can be triggered by me from your website, please point me to the website and I'll use it to send some test emails to me.

Unfortunately, the upgrade of my site to PHP 7.x and MySQLi has rendered PowerMessenger unusable, and I can no longer enter the admin backend to generate the said test emails so they can work on the issue I raised with them.

Please could you indicate to me how these can be generated, and so the company can investigate?

Thank you,
KB

(Reminder: my login name and password are hardwired in to a PHP script somewhere or other, and the email forward is then unable to do what it usually does, and put a more "friendly", not to say accurate, address as source of those emails. They instead stubbornly go out with my login name)

I put up a php 7 compatible version in the folder:

powermessenger_php7

You can use that to send any test emails you need. Just go to a mailing and click Send Preview and enter the email address you want to send it to.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I eventually could not avoid upgrading my server to Centos 7.x with native PHP 7 loaded upon it; with Plesk Obsidian.

The whole thing was a complete and absolute nightmare, and I am only just getting things to normal.

I wish to report, now, that it looks as if the updates you made to PowerMessenger are working fine. I have only tried a couple of things for the last 5 minutes now that I have access again, and the few things I have tried to do with it are working OK

Thank you very much and I again apologise for the delay in getting back to you.

With every good wish,

Hello,

SECURITY CODE issue

The Registration Page at:
https://www.xxxx/powermessenger_php7/users_registration.php

asks for a security code … but no such code is in fact loaded.

I see only a few boxes with slanting diagonals and vertical lines. No code exists to be copied.

Thank you,
