send email using smtp doesn't work

Hello all,
I'm trying to use SMTP as sending engine.
I have the related data (server, auth user, auth password, port) but it simply doesn't work.
I get the error "504 gateway time-out".
I just tryed all options but using the customer email server seems impossible.
The server uses the MDaemon engine.
Please note that the email doesn't reach the server at all (no log in webassist email log table); not there is no trace in MDaemon logs.
Here attached the smtp settings (private attachment).
What else can I check?
The only way to send email is to use the mail engine and using external emails as recipients.
But how can I use the smtp server?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Tony

Turn SMTP debug on. That will show you the full trace of the email being sent and can give you more information about where it fails.

Is your FROM address the same as the SMTP username? That is usually a requirement for SMTP servers.

Hi Ray,
thanks for your reply.
I already tried all debug options, but I cannot troubleshoot anything because the page hangs and at last I get the gateway time-out error.
I can't find anything in the email table log.
Where am I supposed to see these debug info?
Thanks again.

In the email settings dialog that you sent in the screen grab you have SMTP Debug turned off. If you turn that on it should send debug information to the page as it processes.

If you want help debugging it, please send me FTP access and a url where I can reproduce the problem and I can try debugging it to see what the cause is.
