Insert Page with links to update pages

Insert Page with links to update pages

Good Day,

I have created an admin interface using dataassist. My insert_page allows an administrator to create/add new courses to the database. The course table in my database has 3 foriegn keys;

subject_cat_id (INT)
examination_id (INT)
awarding_body_id (INT)

These columns are primary keys in three seperate tables.

Because data assist is designed to create an insert form for 1 table, I would like to request your help for the following.

1. After creating my insert form using data assist wizard for add/ create course, I would like to create (dynamic) dropdowns that will list all the subject_categories, examination_categories, and awarding_body_categories available in my database.

2. If these rows do not exist i would like to create a button/link (bound to a form text field) that would link to an insert page for these 3 foriegn keys(3 indiviual insert pages). When the admin fills in these new catgories and clicks send/update I would like to be redirected back to the course insert form with the new data populating the fields, + my original filled in fields still in tact (not sure if a cookie or session variable is needed).

3. Now when the insert page is complete the admin can click the insert button and all the field in the table are populated even the foriegn keys.

I know this is possible as I have seen it in powerstore, but I have no idea how to implement this using data assist (and possibly dynamic dropdowns)

When you run through the DataAssist Wizard, starting on the fifth page of the wizard, for the foreign key columns, change the Display As option to Menu. Then Click the Lightning bolt icon and select the corresponding table. Set the vlauie to the ID column, and the label to the text column.

You will then need to create the insert pages for the foreign key tables.

You can use the data assist wizard to create the insert pages for those tables. After the have been created, go into the Insert Record server behavior on each one, and set the redirect after link to go back to the main insert page. on the main insert page, add links to the other three insert pages.

Hi Jason,

That worked!

but the only problem is that I lose the data I had already started filling in on the main insert form when I am redirected. Is there a way that form data will not be lost if I navigate away from the main insert page. If so would you be able to direct me on how to do it?

Not really, not without some ajax coding to repopulate the lists.

it is necessary to reload the page to repopulate the lists. When the page reloads, the information already entered will be cleared.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the help, I may have to work around that issue, I had hoped wa cookie toolkit could do it but I don't think that is what it is designed to do. Not to worry.

God Bless :)
