send mail with authentication?

Hi all,
I'm creating a page that is basically a form with an insert record behaviour that validates and sends an email.
If I use the email object it works but I get lots of users that do not receive the email.
So, I would like to use the send email with authentication but I can't find a way to make it work.
I've set all options as required except the pear path (if I look at the phpinfo settings, it seems that it's already in place (include_path: .:/usr/share/pear).
I tested the page but no email will be sent.
Is there a way to troubleshoot the problem?
TIA
tony

The result from the email send should be saved in the session. If you dump it onto the page after the send it may show you the error. The dump code would look like:

<?php
@session_start();
var_dump($_SESSION);
?>

Just create a blank page with that code and visit it after sending to see any errors.

Who is your hosting provider? Some hosts require sending emails from a valid email address registered on their server.

Are you sure it didn't send and just get blocked by a spam filter?

The dump shows that there was no problem with the php code or web page itself. The issue is either the server failing to deliver or the email recipient blocking the email.

Hi Ray,
what about the "pear" part? I leaved this field empty.
Another consideration:
the domain name is registered on REGISTER.IT.
The website (www only) is hosted on a dedicated server (linux using plesk).
If I use the "mail" options it works, but I'm sure I'll get lots of messages not reaching recipients because the email is not authenticated.
So, I would like to use the authenticate method.
I can use authenticated mail server from www.turbosmtp.com.
I already added the SPF values in the DNS of the domain.
But no email will be delivered and nothing has been logged on the EmailLog table.
The form is submitted without errors and the record is added to the database.
Any other suggestion will be really appreciated.
Tony

Authentication has nothing to do with deliver-ability.

Authentication implies the connection to the email server that sends the email, not the the email itself. The outgoing email is not somehow authenticated in this process. Use the mail option if it works. You aren't going to have any better success getting email delivered with pear and you will probably have to jump through hoops to get it configured.

SPF and DKIM are the best options for including deliver-ability, and they don't require PEAR.
