is it compatible with Dreamweaver 8
I have CSS Sculptor installed and activated, but anytime I choose a menu for CSS Sculptor in DW, the application closes and redirects to the webassist website.

CSS Sculptor is not officially supported in Dreamweaver 8. You will have to upgrade to a more recent version of Dreamweaver to use CSS Sculptor. You can check the requirements of a product by going to www.webassist.com and clicking on the Extensions menu and selecting the product you are working on. Click on the Features tab and then there is a System Requirements section.
Here is the CSS Sculptor page:

Wow. I was surprised to read that CSS Sculptor does not support DW8 -- only more recent versions. This is NOT emphasized on the WebAssist site -- and it certainly wasn't even mentioned when I purchased CSS Sculptor v1. In fact, the latter was released only a few months after Dreamweaver 9/CS3 was released. And although I have not used CSS Sculptor 1 a great deal, it has worked with my Dreamweaver 8 so far. If I end up having trouble -- because I won't be upgrading Dreamweaver anytime soon -- I will certainly insist upon a refund. After all, WebAssist's own HELP file for CSS Sculptor even indicates that Dreamweaver 8 is supported:
"The following locations in Dreamweaver open the CSS Sculptor Layout Manager:
* WebAssist Insert toolbar (Dreamweaver CS3 and 8)...."
And reviewers like Mr. Zeldman stated that Dreamweaver 8 was supported too:
"CSS Sculptor is compatible with Dreamweaver CS3 and Dreamweaver 8 on Windows and Macintosh. It will retail for $149.99 but is can be had for $99.99 through 6 September 2007. I don’t get anything for telling you about it except the warm glow of sharing."
So maybe CSS Sculptor 1 supports Dreamweaver 8, and not CSS Sculptor 2. I hope that is the case. If so, then people who purchased v2 should be offered a link to v1 or a refund. (And any version, I believe, can be customized and improved by altering the XML. Of course, anything output by CSS Sculptor can also be changed or improved in any way using Dreamweaver or another code editor. Personally, I've just used CSS Sculptor for a quick start then I go to Dreamweaver 8.)
Anyway, it seems to me that WebAssist needs to emphasize compatibility much more for all its products. And better backward compatibility would be nice, unless of course WebAssist is bound by a secret deal with Adobe to only support the latest versions of Dreamweaver. (I notice, for example, when graphics need to be edited, WebAssist documentation never refers to an "image editor" instead only "Fireworks" is specified. I only hope that WebAssist never inserts code with the specific intent of breaking with older versions of Dreamweaver.)

We always list what versions of Dreamweaver a product is compatible with under the features tab > system requirements section of our product detail pages on our website.
And you are correct in your assumption. CSS Sculptor Version 1 came out a couple years ago and would have been supported by Dreamweaver 8. If you purchased it before CSS Sculptor 2 came out, you can still access it from the Download Center.
We typically support the latest version of Dreamweaver and one version back whenever we come out with a new product or a new version of a product. We also support 2 versions back if a product is released shortly after a new version of Dreamweaver was released, like in the case of CSS Menu Writer (you can see all 3 versions are supported).
We don't break compatibility with older version of Dreamweaver. In fact, a lot of the functionality probably works with older versions. However, we do not test on older versions so we can't guarantee that.
