Update Page Question

Hi:

I generated a WADA search > results > Details > Update > Delete sequence that works well.

Then I made copies of the Details > Update > Delete pages and created a second sequence that works well except for the Update page, which does NOT update records. I modified the links that send users from one page to the other and that aspect of the second sequence works well.

Is there any other code I should have modified to make the second Update page work well?

Attached please find a copy of both the Update page that works well (pslip_UpdateInsert.php) and the one that does not (pslip_Update.php)

Thank you for your attention

Your form action is set to "pslip_Detail.php?ID=6"... it has to be set to the pslip_Update.php page.

Ray:

Again, many thanks. This forum is a good DW school.

How did you do this? I have been 3 hours trying to set up an update page, and have yet to have results. The best i can do is get a form that is not populated, with some apparently not-connected pages with a search box on them. is there a tutorial to do this, that explains the actual steps? i cannot find anything that actually helps me do it. just the "help"pages that say to go through the steps, nothing explains how to do the steps correctly so that i get results.

I want a page that i can search for a records, using one field, then choose that record (if multiple search results) and edit it, submit it. adding an insert form would be my next step.

thanks in advance

If you can post ftp access to the files you are working on I can take a look to see what might be going wrong. There isn't enough information in your post to diagnose the problem.

ya okay. and how do I do that? you want a copy of the code?

First- I had to uninstall Dreamweaver CC and install CS6, the CC version was giving me all kinds of error messages after installing Data bridge. So i think i have that part figured out.

so now about 6 hours into this and I am back to square one.
- I have a page that has records from a database, ('partial' ; only three columns displayed out of 16)
- I want to make these records into links so that I can click on the key (email in this case) or any other part of the record as displayed
- have it open a form that will be used for updating selected columns
- and then a submit button to perform the update

I have gone through several tutorials, and spent a lot of time at http://www.webassist.com/help/Data-Assist/dataassist_update_single_record_sb.html , i have yet to have any kind of results of any kind.

please help me at least get something started!

Thanks

Just add links to the rows using standard anchor tags that go to the details page like:

<a href="details.php?ID=<?php echo($row_Recordset1['KeyColumn']); ?>"><?php echo($row_Recordset1['yourDisplayedColumn']); ?></a>

Then on your details page you can use the simple view and filter your recordset KeyColumn using the URL parameter ID that you added to the link referenced above.

If you attach a copy of your results and details pages you have so far, I could be more specific with line numbers.

i am with you on your first two lines above. not familiar with a 'details page' perhaps there is more of your documentation that i need to read? specifically explaining a details page would be a good start i imagine if there is a link you could provide.

below is the file. the links to records to modify will be on lines 190, 206, & 222.

A details page is just a page that displays the single record linked from a results page.

Maybe I'm missing what you are trying to accomplish. It might make sense to sign up for a premier support ticket in this case to help you through the particulars of your project.

Attached are:

1) My admin page, created without Data Assist. The lines I want to link to are 195, 213, 229, & 245.
2) Update page to populate and go to when link is clicked on
3) Search page in case I have to go there first to get to update page from admin page.

What I want: Click on email (lines referenced above) on admin page, and have the update page open and ready to use with correct record.

Thanks
