Update for MySQLi Compatibility! ALL EXTENSIONS! (ooops - maybe not)

I see that "quietly" Web Assist has provided an update to all of their extensions that provide MySQLi compatibility so they can be used with the new MySQLi extension.

1: Thank you for the very rapid update...
2: BIG, BIG thank you for NOT making this a paid update.

However, I have one big question/concern before I update to the latest version.
Will the update work with MySQL connections as well - is it backward compatible?

If not, here are my two largest concerns.

1: People using the deprecated MySQL functions will no longer receive any updates... Not a big problem for new features, but a huge problem when the update fixes bugs or security matters.

2: In order to maintain older sites using MySQL functions, we would need to run a second version of Dreamweaver (an older version) with the older version of your extensions. For those that don't have an older version of Dreamweaver - they would likely have to run a 2nd computer as continually uninstalling and reinstalling extensions is not an elegant option.

codamedia, I think you are misunderstanding the MySQLi Extension.

Data Bridge, Design Extender and eCart are not yet MySQLi compliant. that us the next project

Adobe have deprecated the Server Behaviors which are the groundwork used for building the database functionality in Data Bridge, design Extender, and eCart. So we first needed to recreate that ground work which is the MySQLi extension.

Now that the MySQLi extension is released, we will be starting to work on migrating Data Bridge, Design Extender and eCart.

Data Bridge is the first one we will start on. as it is the most database driven of the extensions it will take the most time to complete.

Jason,

I fully understand MySQLi and the the new extension. I also understand that all the extensions need to be updated to work with it.

What I am referring to in this thread is that in my download section there are updates for every extension - and the latest version all lists "updated for compatibility with MySQLi Server Behaviours".

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE FROM MY ACCOUNT

Data Bridge 1.2.0
•Updated for compatibility with MySQLi Server Behaviors
•Installer updates

Can you see why I might have assumed you have actually updated the extensions to work with MySQLi? Especially considering these updates are just 3 days old.

I see this also came up in a STICKY here:

The phrase "updated for compatibility with MySQLi Server Behaviours" really needs to be clarified.

Well this is a quandary... So those of us that own Databridge should wait or buy the new extension?

Buy now and have the functionality for MySQLi methods or wait and it will be included in the next Databridge Update...

Do we chance the case of having to pay for the extension today and then paying for a Databridge update that has the same functionality thereby lessening the value since we already paid for this in the extension released today?

The plan is to include the MySQLi server behavior functionality into the MySQLi Data Bridge upgrade. If you purchase the MySQLi Server behavior now, however, the cost of it will be deducted from the Data Bridge upgrade price.

Sounds fair. I bought the extension. Looking forward to trying it out.

I'm still concerned about the issue of maintaining old sites. If I buy and install the MySQLi extension and I need to do some work on a page made with DataBridge, will it be able to handle the old server behaviors?

Yes, you will still be able to manage old sites using Data Bridge.

The MySQLi extension will not have any effect on old sites that where created using Data Bridge.
