In need of suggestions on the best way to create poducts database

Just purchased the dynamic suite today. Looking forward to creating a more modern online store for our shop. However, I am a unfamiliar with setting up SQL databases. Unfortunately, our shop uses peachtree accounting for inventory control (worst software, EVER). I can get our inventory to export to an excel sheet in a somewhat easy to use format. We have 9000+ different inventory items, and I would prefer not to do manual data entry for the database, for obvious reasons. We sell antique motorcycle parts and I would like to keep the format simple. Something like this....

Part Number Description Price

I really need it to be that simple. This is how it is setup in peachtree and I do not want to edit each item one by one, I have done similar adjustments in the past and it takes ages and there is too much risk of error involved with peachtree. I would prefer to use an open source, or free, tool to convert my inventory excel sheet into a SQL database. I was hoping somebody on the support team would have a suggestion that would integrate nicely with eCart. I have seen SQL convert for excel, but it costs $50. I would only really need to use the tool once, right? Pretty sure I cannot justify the purchase to the boss after we spent $300 on the suite. I am struggling to modernize a very old school motorcycle shop, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

entering an excel spreadsheet into a SQL database can be done using the MySQL Migration tools which are included in the MySQL GUI tools.

Way over my head

I am in over my head on this project. After researching eCommerce solutions, I thought eCart would be the one for me. I used dreamweaver to create all my sites, and a plugin made sense to me. My hosting provider does not allow remote access to their databases, so I have to use PHPmyadmin on their site, and it is all so confusing. I thought converting a CSV into a database would be a simple task, but this is not the case for me. I am completely clueless when it comes to mySQL, and any documentation I have read on the subject might as well be in written in Japanese. All i wanted was a store driven by a simple database with three fields.

part number, description, price

Any attempts to import my CSV into a new database I have created fail, and my hosting company support sucks, and unfortunately I cannot switch hosts.

Our customers know the part numbers for the items they need, so in theory this was going to be easy. I can't even get to step one, because I am too dumb to get a database up and going. Whats the refund policy on the dynamic suite?

CraigRBeta Tester

I have quite a bit of database experience.

if you are happy to attach or PM me some sample data and your requirements, I will take a look for you.

(What I don't want to do is give you an apparent lifeline and you ultimately find you cannot progress with the extension and fall foul of the 15 day return policy).

Happy to help if I can
