IE 10 Problems

I recently upgraded IE to version 10, and now HTML Editor and KFM are giving me grief.

1: HTML Editor will not show any content, and will not work without the compatibility button engaged. Then it appears to work fine.

2: KFM does not work, with or without the Compatibility Button engaged. The window opens and shows the folders on the right, but when I attempt to do anything I get an IE is not responding error and have to shut down the browser.

Both HTML Editor and KFM are working fine with Firefox (I believe at this time it is version 18) and Chrome and IE9. I should also note that I have tested this with several sites and get the same results with all of them.

Is this a problem you are aware of and working on - or is it unique to me? If you are aware of it, will there be a fix coming soon? I always tell my clients to use Firefox and/or Chrome when working in the admin area I provide them, but IE is still a standard for many people so I don't want to ignore that one.

The older Stand Alone version of HTML Editor or Form Builder uses CKEditor 3.5.6 which will not be compatible with IE 10.

In Data Bridge, the CKEditor version has been updated to CKEditor 4.0 which has been updated to work with IE 10, though CKEditor have released an update to 4.1 to fix some bugs in 4.0. We will be updating Data Bridge to include that version in the near future.

you can update the CKEditor Files manually.

in the webassist/ folder, rename the ckeditor folder to ckeditor_bak

On this page:
download

click the button to launch CK Builder. Select to use the Full Preset, and the Kama Skin.

Copy the downloaded CKEditor folder to the webassist folder in your site.

from the ckeditor_back folder, copy the following three files:
ckeditor.php
ckeditor-php4.php
ckeditor-php5.php

and paste them in the new ckeditor folder.

you will need to clear the browsers cache to see the updates take effect.

The KFM File Manger does not have an update to correct issues with IE 10. In the IE Developer tools, try setting the IE mode to use the IE8 engine instead of compatibility mode.

Thanks for the details Jason.

Yes - those sites I was testing has the stand alone version of HTML Editor so I updated them to use the version from Data Bridge instead. It is working fine now.

However - KFM still does not work (as you mentioned it wouldn't). Using the developer tools to make the change won't work either, as KFM opens in a new window which always defaults to IE10. The program will stop responding, so at that point there is not way to recover or change anything. Unless there is a way to make that change stick as the default it won't do much good.

I know KFM is not a well maintained project, but I sure hope a fix is available soon for that. For now I'll have to tell my clients they have no choice but to use Firefox or Chrome for editing sites.

I found a way to get KFM to work in IE10.

In the HEAD of "webasssist/kfm/index.php" I placed this line of code:

<meta http-equiv="x-ua-compatible" content="IE=9" >

You could set this to IE-8 if you want, but I find 9 is working fine.

Edit the HTML Editor instance on the page, in the preset list, select one of the presets with the file manager enabled. or edit the existing preset and enable file uploads.

A different IE 10 Issue

I have a problem with IE 10 and dynamic dropdowns. They work great in all other browsers, but in IE10, you can't select any of the items in the dynamically created menu. If you go to http://mygolfvacation.com/findtrip1.asp enter a start date/end date/ no of golfers, then submit, it takes you to a page where you select state, then the dynamically created list of areas. All looks good until you try and select one.

Any ideas why IE 10 would do this?

the problem is caused by using the name "Area" for the child select list. This is a reserved javascript function name and should be avoided as a form element name when using javascript to manipulate it like with Dynamic drop downs.

rename the area select list, then re apply the populate list from area behavior.

Thanks

Changed Area to myArea in the DB, form fields, and re-applied. Still works in all other browsers, but not in IE 10
