dodgy code + upgrade from old version

Hi jason

1) When a user uploads a png picture, rather than having the code show a path to the images, hundreds - maybe thousand - of lines of code are inserted into the field. The picture displays properly - but I wonder if this is normal?

For example:
img alt="" src="data:image/jpeg;base64,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

and LOADS more guff! I *think* png is the cause, but would be grateful for any correction.

2) in Post t=29875 you say delete the webassist/ckeditor folder, then update the pages with the html editor on, which will recreate the folder and update it to the latest version (I have Data Bridge and Design Extender). Can you confirm this will then make all instances of the editor compatible with IE10 ?

Many thanks
Chris

1) Can you send a copy of the png file you are using that is causing this please so i can try to reproduce

2) That will update the CKEditor instances in your site to using V4, but CKEditor does not have a version yet that is compatible with IE 10. CKEditor have not released an IE10 update yet.

Hi Jason

Thanks for the usual quick reply. The problem applies to several different users and it only registered with me when my database backup failed - due to the char_length of the field on which the html editor is applied (over one million characters seems to cause the issue).

Once the guff was removed (the page displayed fine with guff in place) there were only a few hundred characters in use.

I have just tried uploading a png, and the displayed code is what you would expect!

Could it be a virus on the users' computers?

(Thanks for IE10 news - will wait until it's available)

Cheers
Chris

I really cant say what the cause of the problem was without being able to reproduce it.

I dont think it would be a virus, but really can t say for certain. it may have been a large PNG file that exceeded the available memory on the server, and so got corrupted on upload, or it could be any number of other possibilities. It could be that the PNG file was badly coded, or corrupted to begin with. without being able to reproduce the problem, i can only make blind stabs in the dark at guess.

Thanks Jason - fair comment! I'd hoped you'd come across this before.

Cheers
