Database oddity-help needed

I loaded up around 200 products that were loaded on to the database in a random order (F,A,C,D,E,B,G etc). When they are displayed whilst a user is looking in the store, they come up in the right order viz
Subcat1
a,b,c,d
Subcat2
e,f,g
However, whebnever I put in a new product, regardless of its name or SKU name, it always appears in the output in the second position i.e.
Subcat1
a,X,b,c,d
Subcat2
e,Z,g

I've looked in the database, and nothing seems amiss in terms of an incremental master key, or odd characters being inserted before the name of the product

I have no idea whether the problem is in the database records, or the SQL statements.

Can anyone help please as I've spent a week trying to figure what's going on and I'm pulling my hair out!

Thanks in advance

Is this the top navigation? or the side menu?

The recordsets that build up the side menu, are set to use the category name of ordering.

please send a link to your store, so i can see the menu and a brief explanation of which menu items are "out of place" and where you would expect them to be.

Database problems

Jason,
If you go here www.greenjjam.co.uk
and then click on "Our Plants", then, Penstamon A-E, you will notice "Atest" and "Btest" in the second place. Any new products always appear in the second location of whatever category they are in
Most odd!
