PayPal eCommerce Toolkit - Not Generating Form Tags

Hello Everyone.

I hope you can help...

I have purchased several suites from WebAssist as well as downloading the free the PayPal eCommerce Toolkit.

I'm having a problem with it at the moment.

I add a "Buy Now" button and it takes me through the process and every thing seems fine, but when you click on the button on the actual website, nothing happens.

On further examination I can see that you are using a form submit statement but your DW Extension didn't create the Form Tag... so nothing happens.

What to do to fix this?

Thanks!

Here is the generated code with the private stuff xxxxxx out:

<input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_xclick" />
<input type="hidden" name="bn" value="webassist.dreamweaver.4_5_0" />
<input type="hidden" name="business" value="xxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxx.com" />
<input type="hidden" name="item_name" value="VetAphex box of 6 at $14.95 each" />
<input type="hidden" name="amount" value="89.70" />
<input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="USD" />
<input type="hidden" name="shipping" value="7.95" />
<input type="hidden" name="shipping2" value="7.95" />
<input type="hidden" name="handling" value="0.0" />
<input type="hidden" name="undefined_quantity" value="1" />
<input type="hidden" name="receiver_email" value="xxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxx.com" />
<input type="hidden" name="mrb" value="R-3WH47588B4505740X" />
<input type="hidden" name="pal" value="ANNSXSLJLYR2A" />
<input type="hidden" name="no_shipping" value="0" />
<input type="hidden" name="no_note" value="0" />
<input type="image" name="submit" src="http://xxxxxx.com/buy_now_htm_files/paypal_buynow.gif" border="0" alt="Make payments with PayPal, it's fast, free, and secure!" />
</p>

As you can see, this code is not surrounded by Form Tags.

thats odd if didnt generate the form tags...perhaps its where you positioned your code? was it already in another form on your page, maybe thats why it didnt generate the forms. there is always a reason for something to go wrong and usually its something so simple like where things are positioned. have you tried manually entering the form tags yourself?

I think I had used the paypal ecommerce toolkit on a simply page. there was no other generated code except for the form....the form tags were:

(I only wanted something simple, hence why not many input tags..have you tested by excluding any of the other input tags you got?

<form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post" target="_blank">

<input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_s-xclick" />
<input type="hidden" name="hosted_button_id" value="XXXXXXXXXXXXX" />
<input type="image" src="https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_GB/i/btn/btn_buynow_LG.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="PayPal - The safer, easier way to pay online." />
<img alt="" border="0" src="https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_GB/i/scr/pixel.gif" width="1" height="1" />
</form>

NoTags

Hey Chris, thanks for the quick response!

No other forms on the page.

It's a pretty simple page, it has a lot of DIV tags for layout, but I placed my buttons within a very specific DIV.

I did add the Form TAGs manually and yes it worked.

I invested a lot in WebAssist (not the PayPal buttons but I purchased other suites) and I did that so I wouldn't have to manually enter code to get the thing to work... otherwise I would have just hand coded it... up to this point it would have been quicker and less frustrating.

I just like things to work the way they are suppose to... I guess it's from years of owning a software development business.

You are right, there's always a reason for everything... I'd like to find out this one :-)

Thanks again and please let me know if you think of anything.

I have not seen that one happen before.

I have a few follow up questions:
What version of the PayPal eCommerce toolkit are you using?

What is your OS?

What other extensions are installed, including version numbers?

can you send a copy of the original page you added the buy now button to, I would like to use it to try and reproduce the problem. Compress the file to a zip archive and attach the zip file please.

Well Guys, I tested it today after a reboot and on a new/blank project and it worked fine.

Wonder what it could have been... so I can avoid it in the future.

* My OS is Win7 Pro 64 bit
* Using version 454
* Also have: Payment Buttons for PayPal ver 1, Tools for Google ver 204, PayPal eCommerce Toolkit Recipes ver 1.

Thanks!!!!

glad to hear it is working.

your versions and operating system sound fine, so I would probably chalk it up to an issue on the page itself. Hard to say for certain though without having the page to test.

Yes, I didn't develop the site and they must have used some proprietary development tool because the code was a mess, but I still can't imagin what would make the extention act that way???

Thanks Again !!!
