Customising with iRite

Customising with iRite

Hi, I've just set up PowerCMS on one of my sites and want to get my own styles working with it as I'm migrating my client from Contribute and so he is used to that environment. In Contribute I disable all the font choices and make them use my styles (it's for their own good!).

I've read through previous threads and had a look at iRite and want to know if I am right in understanding that I can use iRite to add my user styles to the drop down list to display with the heading tag styles? I've added my style sheet to the WA_iRite contents_insert_ContentValue1.js and contents_update_ContentValue1.js but found that it hasn't added many of my styles. I looked at the thread about this previously where you advise to create an FCK xml file but iRite looks like an easy way to achieve that AND would be worth buying if it also answers my second query :: I also want to change all the icons that are currently displayed by default in the PowerCMS editor. For instance, I would prefer to remove the font colour choices so that they only use the styles available (as per above) and what is inhererited from the page (which works ok). I've viewed the demo and it says you can customise that for your forms - can I presume you can do it for the PowerCMS also? Will it be easy to do, ie use iRite with PowerCMS?

Thanks

Yes, powerCMS was built with iRite, so it can be edited and updated with iRite as well.

I bought iRite to make the changes but am having some difficulty with it. Spent a lot of time reading through the threads on iRite and didn't really get a lot of it.

I opened up contents_insert.php and clicked on the iRite edit button in properties within Dreamweaver CS2. Took out the icons I didn't want. Browsed to my style sheet and selected the styles I wanted ok and saved the file. Uploaded it and all the iRite files to my server but no difference. I've opened up iRite custom folder and manually uploaded the js and xml files in there which are called the same as my custom toolbar and when I open them have the right info. Trouble is nothing looks any different, same toolbar, no styles? There are 2 other files in there already which I checked and are also on the server (I did that because a thread in iRite said that sometimes DW doesn't upload the custom files). Not sure why this hasn't worked, can you help please?

You need to upload the associated configuration file for the iRite. Most likely you haven't uploaded your dependent files. Are you browsing locally or remote?

Hi, I uploaded the whole iRite folder. I am browsing online. I haven't done any local testing. I'll upload the folder again to see if it makes any difference.

Hi Ray,
I wondered if you had any other advice only I need to get this CMS up and running as soon as I can. My client was using Contribute but his PC is completely scuppered and so I need to get his site back to him with a CMS asap. Can I provide you with any other information? The CMS is working on the page I have set up, I just can't seem to get iRite to recognise the changes I have made to the style drop down menu and editing icons. I clicked on the iRite edit button in preferences and made my changes and uploaded the file and all of the iRite folder (including dependent files). I do know that DW sometimes decides not to load everything and so if there is a particular file(s) you could suggest I should manually upload, then I will do. Would appreciate any help you can give as I can't see why this isn't working.
Thanks

I've just managed to solve one of the problems. I very stupidly was working on the wrong version of my files - sorry about that. I've got the right buttons showing now in the editor but still do not have the styles in my drop down list. I can see the contents_update_ContentValueStyles.xml file that it has created and that has my selected styles in it. I've checked it is on the server ok and when I uploaded the iRite folder I selected all the dependent files. Not sure what else to check?

Could you also tell me whether it is possible to allow the client to upload pdf files please using the CMS?
Thanks

Please post the URL and I can evaluate why it might not be working.

Ray,
The CMS is admin/
with log in as admin and test.
I have added 2 pages to test with editable regions which can be found on homepage.php and services.php.
Please note that I have produced quick copies of these files from my live site on a different url and so the links on the nav do not work (they point to html files) plus no images are on the site so it don't look good! All I'm testing is the CMS which seems to be working ok apart from the styles list. Thanks for your help, please let me know if I need to give any more info.
