Developing iPhone apps

Hi,

I was wondering, if you could offer a tool for developing iPhone apps. Maybe as an extension for Dreamweaver.

You can already develop 'Web Apps' for the iPhone using Web Assist extensions. You just need to ensure that you are using the CSS to fit the iPhone viewport.

You cannot create native iPhone Apps with web development software.

Are you trying to achieve anything inparticular?

I am becoming increasingly frustrated with iPhone apps that do not work reliably. So I am entertaining the idea to try developing my own app. I noticed that Dreamweaver CS5.5 has some iPhone app options. The required download is very big though (will take overnight). So haven't had the chance yet to try it out.

Correct, but it won't create native iPhone apps.

They will just be normal web sites that are 'sized' for the Safari Mobile viewport. The user will need to access the web app through Safari in the first instance, just like any other web site, and then you can add the shortcut as a home page icon.

You won't be able to make these 'apps' available in the App Store. To develop a true App you will need to download Xcode and learn a completely new development language.

I think they are actually talking about native apps. Dreamweaver uses Xcode. I just don't know to what extent. Learning another development language would not be easy for me :)

I am glad to see, you guys seem to have it figured out.

I downloaded Xcode and set the path in Dreamweaver. But the build produces an error and gets me nowhere. I tried restart, reinstall and much more. Adobe's support will be next. I can't wait to see, what is possible.

That was quick and painless ... and free. The iPhone build does not work with the newest release of Xcode (4.2.1). Instead I need to delete that version and download 3.2.1. Another overnight download.
