Activation of extensions - Each time I want to use it?

Hi All-

I have a localized development environment to avoid having to connect to the Internet since I travel a lot and do a lot of work when I fly. Now, I am new to WA, and noticed that I have to provide my serial number each time I want to use the extension. Is there a way to validate the serial number once and use it? It seems a huge pain in the neck to have to connect to the internet each time I want to use the extension to validate the serial number. It is a true nuance and slows me down tremendously. I dont want to return the purchased product but will unless I am not able to work offline.

Any ideas? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Daniel

activation is dependent on the MAC address of the active network card.

if you switch network cards, or disable them when you go offline, it will require reactivation.

I've had this problem for years (and with a variety of PC's and internet connections) and has been looked into by WA twice without solving the problem. I've learnt to live with it.

I used to simply purchase every WA product when they were released - but this bug bugs me so much I only purchase when necessary now.

I don't change any settings / MAC address or alter hardware or software. Yet, it stillpersists after all these years. It's a drag but I live with it (even if my heart sinks each time I am about to emply a WA product!).

MAC and Activation

On most network cards, you can manually set the MAC address. Just copy your current MAC and apply it wherever you need to activate from.

This may help - change-mac

Thanks for the link. An interesting read, especially the line:

As a MAC address can be changed, it can be unwise to rely on this as a single method of authentication. IEEE 802.1x is an emerging standard better suited to authenticating devices at a low level.

However, I don't change anything. I just open and close Dreamweaver. And when connected I can run WA progs - but when off-line, I can't run them! Very frustrating.

I don't have any issues like this with Adobe progs that rely on a serial / activation number. It's only WA.

As I say, learn to live with it (even the sinking feeling you get when about to employ a WA prog knowing you'll have to be permenently connected to make them work).

Maybe it's a UK issue that doesn't crop up in the USA.
