Facebook Social Media Tools

Hi all,

Is anyone witnessing any problems with Facebooks Social Media Tools at the moment?

I have tried implementing the Like Button and Comments both manually and using the Web Assist Social Media Toolkit but with no joy.

When I try to post comments I get :

Something went wrong. We're working on getting it fixed as soon as we can.

And if I try to press a Like button I get the popup window appear, and then start flashing as if its calling and then uncalling itself.

I realise this isn't a WA problem, but this seemed like a good please to see if other people are witnessing the same?

Cheers
an

Hi again,

After a bit more playing it seems to be that the problem is caused by putting Social Media Toolkit in an includes file and then calling it through Framework builder.

If I simply use the root host value of the domain name every works OK, but if I start to construct the URL using PHP Server Variables such as HTTP Host and REQUEST_URI it doesnt, even though the URL is 'written' correctly in the code.

Is anyone else coming across this?

I guess that worst case scenario is that I build these features into the template instead of using them as Framework includes.

Cheers
Ian

are you using the Social Media Toolkit 1.0.1 GMC 1 build that is available in the download center?

I believe the 1.0.1 support build should correct this issue.

Hi Jason,

Yes, I've got the GMC release installed now.

I've had exactly the same problem with both but am still looking into why this is happening.

To be fair to WA, I get the same problem even if I simply use the FB generated code from their developer centre in terms of the FB Like button creating a 'flashing' pop up window as it calls and uncalls the Like window.

Strange one. Not sure if FB are having issues at the moment, or if its a problem with my sites (I get the same problem on two different domains)

Cheers

Quick update if anyone is interested.

I appear to have resolved the 'flickering' Facebook window now by moving from the XFBML version to the iFrame version.

Not sure what the difference is - but, touch wood, has fixed things for now.

Cheers

fyi...I have been able to use as an include. Not with out some difficulty getting it to behave sometimes though, but have gotten it to work. One of the buttons has to be deleted but off top of my head, can't recall which one isn't working.

Facebook Social Media Tools

For Facebook, mostly Facebook Insights, it's pretty complete and it's really handy because it is used directly on the page and you can export the spreadsheets.

I also use FbRank.com to analyze the trends and see how a certain brand ranks in relation to other brand on the same subject/market

I use Tweetalyzer for Tweeter

Social Media Toolkit inside a Framework Builder plug-in

Is it possible then to insert Social Media Toolkit share links inside a Framework Builder plug-in page and have the share icons reference the appropriate page that the user is browsing?

I followed the instructions in the Support section's FAQs that tells you how to apply SMT to SiteSculptor/PowerCMS templates, but I'm not so sure this applies to my situation. Those instructions sound like you need an individual template for each page you want to apply SMT to. But I could definitely be wrong in how I'm understanding it.

For the project I'm working on, all of the site's interior pages are derived from only two choices of templates. The index page is a totally separate design not derived from a template. Each interior template consists of a header plug-in, main content editable region, and the footer plug-in that has the share links.

Not so sure where to take it from here or if I can even do what I'm shooting for. Thanks.

Mikey - You can achieve your desired result by using a server variable. Here's how I did it in PHP.

1. create a variable at the top of the social module code:

$currentpage = str_replace ("/", "", $_SERVER["REQUEST_URI"]);

2. use this variable as the link in the WA plugin.

http://www.yoursite.com/'.$currentpage.'

This is working well for me and I hope it helps you out too! You can also use $_SERVER["PHP_SELF"] if you do not have dynamic URL strings. Some of my pages do so I use the code in step #1 above.
