Does Not Work

Hi, I added the bing search engine to my site and it will not work. I tried twice, the page is created successfully but the search engine query process seems to be missing from the code. Nothing happens when a search is queried. Please help.

Bing Search problem

bing_search.html

should I be saving this page as a different file format?

In the search for bing behavior, how did you configure the search and results page?

did you check the option to create a separate search and results page? Did you specify a results page name?

Bing Search problem

Hi there, the first time I created my page, I had the separate search and results pages. I saved them as bing_search.html and bing_results.html but they did not work. I sent it to a tech guy at my hosting company and he said:

Hello,

It appears as if the onSubmit action of your form is calling the function "processBingQuery" however, this function does not exist on the page. Most likely there is a javascript include or snippet of code that will also need to exist on that page.

Then I tried to make the page again. I unchecked the box so that the search and results would be on the same page. Still no luck.

your page should have the following code just above the </head> tag:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="webassist/bing_search.css" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="webassist/bing_search.js"></script>

and make sure to upload the webassist folder to the remote site.

Bing Search problem

Jason, OK I added the code, but I dont know what folder you are talking about. There was no mention of a webassist folder in the installation directions with the search engine. Where do I find it?

the webassist folder will be created at the root of your Expression web site.

Bing Search problem

Jason,
If I am supposed to create this Webassist folder, then at some point in your instructions you should probably indicate this. I went through the whole download, install, and create page process again, and then added the code you told me to add (where is the instructions for this in the process? How is anyone supposed to know to add this?) and it still doesnt work. I watched the video instructions, and while I did every step indicated, I do see a webassist folder containing the mysterious missing elements in the video, and that I do not have nor do I know where to get it. I give up. I deleted the Bing search elements and went with a google search engine since I have been trying to resolve this for over a week now, with very little help. And no way to just pick up the phone and ask someone or email for help. I gues I got what I paid for with this! - Chris
