Problems editing design in PowerStore 4.0.1

Installed PowerStore 4 and it was successful. went into admin to edit design. after a few edits the system locked. logged out, logged back in and now the design mode will not work. I get the this trying to edit any theme: Need help.

Could be a permissions problem. double check that the webassist/themes directory, and all child directories, has 777 permissions granted.

It could also be that the temp_editing/css/configurable.css has become corrupted.

You could try deleting the webassist/themes/temp_editing/ directory from the server, it will be recreated the next time you attempt to edit the theme.

I totally reinstalled the store 3 times and every time it installs successfully. and I can proceed to admin. As soon as I start to add content or edit the theme design it goes nuts. The css seems to go whacky even for the structure of the store itself, and the format falls apart. while trying to save changes it locks up and then I cannot get back into the admin.
This purchase has been extremely disappointing. I need to get this store up and running and I can't even add content

Also if I try to save the changes as a new theme after the first attempt it locks up and gets stuck. The permissions are all on 7 with the exception of "write everyone" the server will not allow me to insert a seven for the check box. it automatically clears that out . Our host is is Network Solutions.com Are there compatibility issues with this host provider? Help!!

I have the same problem with a new installation of 4.5, all file permissions on 777 and with the temp directory deleted, tried with 2 browsers (IE and Safari). Still get the same error message and a crash:
