Empty cart shows on live site

Empty cart shows on live site

On my testing server "add to cart" button sends product quantity appropriately to cart.php but
On live site "add to cart" button shows "empty cart" on cart.php even though I sent the quantity of (1) or more.
I've tried Ray's session_commit(); solution to no avail. I am using a static cart with only one item to sell.
Also, I tried the sessionTest.php script and it failed with test=NULL after loading again. What now?
Can anyone help? Thanks!

I think I found the answer - I had to set a phpsessions folder on the server and set php session.save_path to that folder on the doc root. WOW!

Now I'm having trouble connecting to 1st Data Linkpoint to process the transaction.
